Yes, this has been an unfortunate trend for the last couple of years in our area, it's too bad because it's fun to get together over Christmas with coworkers and have some fun.

That's just a shame. You don't need money to enjoy the spirit of Christmas!

My company is still offering each of its 28 divisions money towards a party. I just wish my boss would realize that no one wants to travel an hour away from their homes or spend 8 or 9 hours to go to a Broadway Show (the Blue Man Show - - - yuk) and Dinner . . . at least I don't. This ist he second year in a row he's tried to push that show and made me feel guilty when I told him I didn't want to go.

I spend 40 hours a week with my co-workers and we go out for 3-4 spontaneous breaks after work during the year. Everyone I've talked to in the office has said they don't want to travel. Wish we could convince him just go to a nice local restaurant on a Thursday or Friday night. We have a ton of money to spend because we hadn't used all our money from the last two years. We could break it down and spend it on 2 or 3 dinners for next year or a picnic.

P.S. If he feels he wants to see the show, he's got a ton of money. Let him buy his own ticket and go instead of trying to force the rest of us to go along with him. I learned a long time ago that life is short and if I have to spend 8 or 9 hours at a show I really don't want to see, then it's my choice to stay home and I shouldn't be made to feel guilty about it.
