If you put up outdoor Christmas lights

Do you leave them up all year round or take them down after Christmas?

The reason I'm asking is that I usually go out mid November and put up my lights and then if it's not too cold outside I take them down 2nd week of January. I've noticed many people now just leave them up all year.

I personally think that it would be hard on the lights being out in the elements year round, it would probably shorten their life

I leave mine up until it gets warm outside. I stop turning them on after the first week of January. I leave them up because its too cold and too much trouble to take them down. On the first warm day, my hubby goes out, and just pulls them down. But, by doing it this way, makes us have to buy new light sets every year due to damage from the cold, snow and wind.

We take ours down the first sunny day after January 6. Otherwise the weather damages them, and I really like the ones I have right now.

We take our down sometime during the first or second weekend in January. All depends on weather and our schedules.

I do think the elements would really affect the life of the lights but maybe people just figure it's cheaper to replace them rather than take the time to remove them each year ... I'm not sure but it seems to be a growing trend where I live.

I leave mine on until Jan. 8. then I take them down the first semi-warm day after that (semi-warm meaning mid 30's)

We take ours down after New Years. We will probably be putting them up within the next couple of weeks.
