Attention: Parents of toddlers/preschool kids!

I know there are plenty of you with kids ages 6 and younger on here and I just wanted to share an awesome, age appropriate channel with you that is not only entertaining for toddlers, but educational as well!

I'm not sure if all cable/satellite service providers offer this channel (Comcast definitely does), but my son's favorite channel is called "Sprout". It's a 24 hour preschool/toddler channel that shows all age appropriate programming, all the time.

In addition to the obvious choices of Sesame Street and Barney, they have a Welsh animation called Fireman Sam, then there's Dive Olly Dive!, Play With Me Sesame, Dirt Girl World, Angelina Ballerina, Zoboomafoo, Caillou, Thomas and Friends, Fifi and the Flowertots...etc.

My favorite programming to watch with my son is actually the live morning show called "The Sunny Side Up Show" which takes place in the Sunshine Barn with one of four alternating hosts and a puppet co-host (a chick named Chica). In honor of the Christmas season, they have changed the name of the show to "The SNOWY Side Up Show"! It's adorable! Each week in December, they devote the show to a holiday related topics. Last week was food and cooking.

Every Friday this month, they'll be showing a Christmas special from the various shows they normally air and I love it!! My son MIGHT sit still long enough to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" or the stop motion Christmas classics, but they're just not geared toward an 18 month old and you can tell because he doesn't really like sitting too still for them.

If you're looking for super age appropriate programming for your little one, check it out!

Thanks ReineV! I miss those days. I'm glad to finally be emerging from the Disney Channel/Sponge Bob phase that comes with the 7-12 year old ages. I've got jsut two left there and I've decided tv really dumbs down after the pre-school years. How I miss them.

Thanks. I almost fell off my chair laughing when you mentioned Fireman Sam!! LOL I never realised he was in America. My son adores him. I bought him the firetrucks for xmas which I know he's going to love.
I dont think that channel is in the UK yet. I love Sesame St, so does the kids but they dont air it over here anymore I have to watch it on Youtube with them.
Hopefully Sky will get the channel soon as it sounds fantastic

Both my boys loved/love that station, LC was so disappointed when they took Make Way For Noddy off the air, that was his favorite.

I am definitely NOT looking forward to the Sponge Bob phase!! Can't they just stay in the Thomas the Tank Engine phase for a few extra years?

Yes, my Kayla(4) used to love sprout. She still watches it every now and then. She has graduated to Nick Jr. If you have Nick Jr, your son will graduate to it too. Its GREAT. Very age appropriate for Pre-K and K. I love the shows. My favorite is the backyardigans. It teaches kids about imagination. Also teaches them dances such as the "Charleston". Then there is Pinky-Dinky Doo. She teaches them BIG words, their meaning and how to use it. She gives them a vocabulary well beyond their years. At the age of 3 my daughter knew what the word "Persistent" meant. She would tell us to be persistent and keep trying. AT AGE 3!!! Then there is Yo Gabba Gabba. Teaches them social acceptance skills. But the highlight of the channel is Moose A. Moose and his sidekick Zee. They have segments between each show. They teach them number skills, shapes, numbers, alphabet, word sounds, the seasons, rhyming. Kayla uses words such as responsiblity, persistent, nocturnal, evolve, and so many other words. Its nice to see they finally have age appropriate shows on TV. Her TV stays on Nick Jr and sometimes she will change it to sprout. There are still shows she likes on sprout such as Angelina Ballerina. Thanks for sharing this topic. I took for granted that everyone had it but I see now, its not available in all areas.

Autumn has been into Sponge Bob since she was only a year old. She is only 2 and half and why she likes him is beyond me. I am VERY thankful that she loves Elmo and this year its all about Dora
I am gonna see if we get that channel. Thanks!

that spongebob is something...for whatever reason every child seems to luv that silly sponge with a snail as his cat.....Kandice hardly ever watches it.....but everytime she does....she is cracking up.

but there are plenty of pre-school shows that really teach things......my daughter is into Thomas, Little Einstein and most of all Mickey Mouse Clubhouse....all shows that I think are approriate and cute at the same time.....and Jana.....Dora is awesome...kandice luves her too and even more so dora s cousin diego

DD loves Nick Jr. I wish we got Sprout, but we don't subscribe to that tier of channels. We watched Nick Jr. all afternoon yesterday & it was all holiday episodes.
