Does this happen to anyone else?

Whenever we (myself and my husband) go shopping, whether it be in a supermarket or any kind of store, we always seem to get watched by security. I have never stolen anything in my life neither has my husband. Take for example, we went into a toy store last week and I bought my daughter a scooter. As we dont drive I put the scooter underneath the pram in the basket and went into another store. As I was paying at the checkout in this place the woman behind the counter said is that from here? I said what? that, she said, the scooter...now this scooter had a sticker on the box saying Smyths Toys, how she would've assumed it was from there ive no idea. I was furious. The same happens everytime we go into this supermarket. I have spent hundreds in there over the years and the same security man watches us all the time. Many times I have seen the security follow us around the shop. In fact it happens everywhere. My only explanation is, that my husband is 6ft 4 and has long dark hair. I dont know what the general assumption is for people who judge others by the way they look, but they obviously must think, oh long hair means bad people!! It's making me too nervous to go anywhere. Think I'm better off internet shopping.

it has happened to me once....my friend and I walked out the shop and the house detective came to me, asking to open my bag to see what I got.......it was a book I bought at this very shop, two minutes ago and I was able to show him the receipt.......what I never found out was.....what made him think I stole something.

Oh yeah, the drugstores here do that to me, and even my 70 y/o mother. It doesn't matter if I have been in there once, or if I've been in there a million times. It doesn't matter if I am dressed up or dressed down and I have never given them reason to tail me. It drives me nuts.

I think I get watched sometimes just because I like to browse and I'm very slow about deciding what to buy sometimes so I probably look suspicious

I have a lot of tattoos and dress on the slightly punkish side, but I honestly don't think I ever get watched in stores.

That or maybe I'm just super oblivious! hah hah.

I'm really sorry that this happened to you. It stinks.

I too am a slow shopper. Once my aunt purchased something in a shop and as she left the store the alarms went off. (the cashier forgot to remove the tag) So, instead of the security man taking the ag off for her he marched her up to the security office. Since then she has been so paranoid about shopping on her own.

That has happened to me a couple of times. Once, i was with my mother and family friend and were were on our way to visiting my grandfather and we stopped by to grab a bite and a friend of ours owns a shop, so we stopped by there. I went in to a store with my mother, so we could buy a few things. As soon as i am wondering around with my mother, the guy at the counter says to the security guard "Oi, watch him.". The security guard was following me the entire time and made sure that i didn't steal anything. I am only 16 years old, but that doesn't give them the right to follow me around the store.

I was a long haired rocker (like Rod!) and used to get 'the look' as well. That really taught me not to judge a book by its cover... (and when you're a bloke with long hair and wear a big leather jacket, when you open doors for little old ladies they give you a really surprised look!!!!)
