My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
In fact, in the little more than two years since he joined MMC he’s posted more than any other member except one – a prolific presence that is ready with a story, a joke, a pun, a warm memory or a great idea. He bills himself as Santa’s #1 fan – and we believe him!
He is Mark, better known and loved in these parts as Made582, of Greenfield, Indiana.
“I became a member of MMC on April 15th 2009.” Mark tells us. “I was looking for a website that had a countdown to Christmas clock on it and when I came across MMC I was amazed at the amount of information the site had on it. I started reading the forums and decided that it looked like a great place to post. So I joined never thinking that I would become as active as I am today but the Christmas spirit kept bringing me back until it became a part of my daily routine.”
What kind of guy looks for a countdown-to-Christmas clock….on tax day?
That’s the kind of guy Mark is – a guy whose favorite MMC moment came while “chatting with Ballcoach and Binger while watching Darlene Love on Letterman on December 23rd”. “My Merry Christmas has become my online home and the people in the countdown thread have become friends.” Mark says. “They are there to listen if you need them or they are there to cheer you up if you are feeling down.”
Mark is a trained diesel mechanic with a degree in service shop management – working in sales!
It’s no wonder, either. Mark is definitely a people person. In each month since we started this member spotlight Made582’s name has been enthusiastically thrown into nomination and folks have actively campaigned to recognize Mark as our member of the month based primarily on his people skills, caring and sense of community.
One of the things you may not know about Mark is that he is the only male in a set of triplets, making him these days a great uncle indeed to his 3 nieces and a nephew. When he isn’t obsessing over Christmas he enjoys Nascar and – get this – visiting outdoors with his neighbors (is anyone surprised?)
Something tells me that if we were ever to pull off a MMC get-together Mark would be there at the door in a party hat to greet everyone.
“My favorite part of the Christmas season is when all of my family gets together to make cookies.” Made582 tells us. “We usually spend a whole Saturday making up about 200 dozen of all kinds of different cookies while listening to Christmas music.” That’s a lot of cookies!
As new members come to MMC Made582 is frequently there to greet them first and to make them feel welcome. If there are questions about how the site works Mark doesn’t hesitate to step forward and make folks feel welcome. When I consider the miracle that is the community of My Merry Christmas it is epitomized by the likes of Made582. Over the years I’ve had folks who reach out with only care in their heart for others and for the season we celebrate, real people who exemplify the spirit of the season.
That’s Made582 in a nutshell -- and we wish the world had more like him!
Thanks, Mark! You’re our member of the month for July 2011. Congratulations!
