Earthquake

Today, just a little over an hour or 2 ago on the east coast in the USA, experienced an earthquake that had a magnitude of 5.8. The east coast just isn't used to this kind of thing. The main place that it took place was Virgina, but it was felt clear up to New York. They've even been evacuating clear up to Canada. I live in Pa and we felt it here. Please pray that everyone is safe and that there is no destruction. So far, there hasn't been any reported deaths, any significant injury, or destruction. Let's hope it stays this way.

I was sitting down earlier today and I felt a shake, and thought to myself it felt like an earthquake, I may have actually felt it up here in Western Massachusetts. I just learned of this about 10 minutes ago, I guess President Obama felt the tremor on Martha's Vineyard. So this years checklist thus far goes as this for us.

January 12-Blizzard dumped 30 inches of snow on us

June 1-Tornado devastates my town

Aug 23-Minor tremor, no damage

Please no more

I've lived for near 35 years in California and I'm still not used to earthquakes--sending prayers for everyone on the East Coast. I have a nephew in Baltimore and lots of relatives in Philadelphia--the ones I've heard from are okay, if a little shaken up (no pun intended!).

Wow - it must have been felt a lot further than they thought. It obviously has been especially if they were evacuating Canada. I am so sorry to hear about the Tornado that hit your town in June. I had no idea. That is so sad. How is everything now?

I don't think I would be able to get used to them either. I think they are super scary. I am glad everyone you have talked to are okay. My step-grandmother and step-aunt live in Baltimore as well. I still need to get into contact with them. Hope they are okay.

The town is getting back on its feet, slowly. The town grocery store is reopening Sept 23, houses are slowly being rebuilt, and all the trees that were destroyed are slowly being removed. It's a lot better than it was.

Well, I am glad to hear that things are coming a long for you guys, but I am sure there is a lot more work that needs to be done. I will say a prayer for you that things keep coming along.

I'm a California boy too but I agree you never get used to them. Hope everyone is ok, it can be quite disturbing to experience.

Felt as far north as New Hampshire, I heard. We felt it here in my office building in Massachusetts. Not very scary, more of a "what was that? did you feel that?" Very similar to a heavy truck passing or a train approaching the platform. First one in my experience. Mr. was working in a high-rise in downtown Boston and didn't feel a thing. I'm sure it was much more disturbing in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.

Yeah, we lived in San Francisco for a couple years while my dad was stationed at Presidio. I felt a couple rumbles, too. It's a little unnerving, for sure.
