Bells Memory from Childhood Christmas

What is your favorite memory from your childhood Christmas? I think my would be the Christmas that my church had Mass at 12:00 am - it to me, since I was just a kid, was the coolest thing ever. We had just got a new priest and he always had his Christmas Eve Mass at 12:00 am. I loved it. We had so much fun that Christmas Eve - watching specials and such before we went to church and spent time together as a family and then we went to church. When we came home, I was able to jump right into bed and before I knew it, it was time to open presents. I loved that Christmas!

I didn't get a chance to have one from my childhood, passed around a lot had a "troubled" family back then, but when I was a teenager I got to know my Nana, and that is when it all changed for me she wasn't "into" Christmas per say, but I remember us helping at the food pantry and all the people she knew by name, we would decorate a tree and that first year I put the star on - God, it still makes me smile right now I have a goofy smile, I wasn't easy at that age I was 14 and a bit of a hater of everything, but she slowly taught me and then my love of Christmas grew from that moment, I couldn't believe how it changed my life, that has to be my one memory of Christmas that I keep with me always and fondly think back to those times - it was her love that all people could change and all people deserved love that made me who I am, she may not have been "into" Christmas but I think in her own way she was Christmas everyday she just didn't see it.

My favorite childhood Christmas was the year I got Suzy Smart for Christmas. I must have been maybe 7 or 8. My father had gotten the "newest" in technology reel to reel tape recorder that year because he loved electronic things. He taped football games (who knows why ) and really just everything. To my amazement that Christmas, he recorded a convesation between my mother, Susy and Santa Claus himself on Christmas Eve talking about what a good girl I had been !!! I was so amazed !! Santa talking to my mother !! At some point when I was listening, I remember asking my mother why daddy's voice wasn't on the tape. She told me the recorder must not have picked him up when he was talking.......My parents made that most wonderful memory for me and I still have that tape....If I only had a reel to reel but those are dinosaurs now.

I have so many favorite memories. I was blessed to have parents that put their kids before themselves, so every Christmas was special. One favorite memory would be the Christmas assemblies that we would have when I was in grade school. Large art tables were pushed together to make a stage, the wall between the 4th and 5th grade rooms was opened up. We sang Christmas carols, yep, songs about Jesus, imagine that. One year I did a solo, "Jolly Old St. Nick" and my Mom would leave her waitress job to come to the school and stand there and watch me, then she would go back to work.

These Christmas assemblies continued in Jr. High, grade 7 to 9th and we went home with a song in our heart looking forward to Christmas.

Also, our community church would put on a Christmas play and it was very special.

When I think of my childhood Christmases, the happy memories all lump into one giant Christmas - filled with the sights, sounds and smells of my grandmother's house. The turkey roasting, the relatives comfortably chatting, the cousins running about playing and comparing gifts from Santa.

In my minds eye I can still see the way the sun drifted in the large picture window in my grandmother's living room and glinted off the Christmas tree - the feeling of knowing it was such a special day and even though it was so cold outside the house was snug and warm and filled with the people I loved the most.

My favorite Christmas memory is when I was eight years old. My twin brothers had been born the week before and I felt that they were the best gift ever. I had always wanted siblings so it was very exciting. ^_^

Mistletoe Memories of Christmas Past.........not many but special

The memories that stick out most in my mind are few, but they always bring some form of emotional response. The most memorable one is how the Walt Disney cartoon "Pluto's Christmas Tree", which starred Chip and Dale, the chipmunks! The scene when they are inside the decorated tree, walking around playing with the ornaments, seeing the lights, just filled me with wonder, so from 6 yrs on up, right through to my teens. After our tree was decorated, and I was alone in the room, I would crawl under our tree and pretend to be one of the chipmunks, and just gaze at the dazzling wonder of it all! Another memory I have is one at the age of 6 or 7, my father had his arms wrapped around me while lying on the sofa watching.....get this.....'Sky King'! While my mother was busy making Christmas cookies in the kitchen, which we decorated later that evening. That was the one and only time he ever showed me affection. They separated shortly after that. Another memory took place at my mother's fathers home, on Christmas eve. The whole family, with cousins, aunt and uncle's all gather to help with the tree, eggnog flowing, cookies, and always hearing 'Rockin around the Christmas Tree'. Such memories.
Later...........
