Tips for Buying a Fresh Tree
I will do that fresh cut of the trunk.....that was my problem last Christmas.....the tree lost so many needles....even tho it was fresh....the problem was....since I didn´t cut the trunk....the tree...
Yes it takes place at Christmas time, but thats about as close as this movie gets.
Bruce Willis goes on anti terrorist destructo spree when said terrorists take over the building where his wifes coporate Christmas party takes place.
I am not knocking Die Hard, I love this movie. But it has as much to do with Christmas as lethal Weapon or any movie where the hero has to kill all the bad guys because....well because theyre bad & the cops are incompetent.
I don't consider Die Hard a Christmas movie either. I think the only reason that is included is to set up the fact that there is a group of people in an, otherwise, empty highrise.
Gremlins is tougher.... It's obvious throughout the movie that it is Christmas time, but it doesn't seem to really play a large part in the overall plot. At least most people remember that Gremlins took place around Christmas, whereas a lot of people don't seem to really remember that fact from Die Hard.
OK so I disagree about Gremlins, I love both movies Die Hard & Gremlins and I agree with Die Hard not with Gremlins, and here is why I think it is...
You see I thought his Dad wanted to gt him a special gift for Christmas, and he does the Gremlin, thus Gizmo comes to the son and he is sweet, kind, helpful, he also has a lesson to teach. Then you have the love interest, she doesn't believe in Christmas anymore and we learn how her father died "playing" Santa, but she learns though the movie to love Christmas again, and of course we have the mean old lady, who is just nasty mean. So yes it is horror but I do think it is still Christmas. It teaches us that by sticking together, working together - I just think it is part of Christmas.
I think I am going to say a movie a few people may not know about it is from 1940 and it was called The Shop Around the Corner (many remember You've Got Mail with Meg & Tom - that was very loosely based on this old movie)

I'll agree that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. I've never seen Gremlins though so I can't vote on that one.
My pick is Paul Blart Mall Cop. The mall is decorated for Christmas and it takes place at Christmas time but the story doesn't really have anything to do with Christmas. Expect for the thieves being called reindeer names.
I think Die Hard, Gremlins, and Paul Blart are just all movies that take place at Christmas.
In the director's commentary on the DVD, Joe Dante explained they released Gremlins in the summer (of '84) so it wouldn't be looked at as a Christmas movie. So I will take him at his word.
If I use that as an argument, should I dare to question Miracle On 34th Street, since that was also a summer (of '47) release. Is it just a movie about a man who may be Santa Claus that takes place during the holiday season.
IMO, yes it is a Christmas flick
This is a great thread!
