Home-Made Gifts

Yup, that's what I'm doing this year for my family!

The idea came to me in July when I was puttsing around Target (my absolute favorite store!) and I saw a HUGE stack of blank CDs (100). They were only $25 and I started to get this idea:

Hmmm...I've got over 1700 songs on my iTunes playlist. A lot of songs either bring back memories with someone or I think they need to hear such song right now.

You might be able to guess the idea that started cooking in my mind. I'm going to burn CDs for members of my family! For each of my sisters, they'll be songs that either bring up a memory (How Will I Know by Whitney Houston for my first sister (28 yrs. next month) or Bette Davis Eyes for my baby sister (23 yrs.)) or was a hit the year (or week!) she was born, or I feel they need to hear the message being sent out.

My folks? A bit different: I'll insert a hit song from the year that my sisters and I were born (1980, 1983, and 1988), something related to a memory, or a message I'm trying to say.

Thankfully, I don't have to download too many songs. If anything, the hard part is writing the looong letters that I'll be attaching to the CDs (explaining why I chose which song and whatnot)!

Will anyone else be making their gifts this year? If so, what? I'm curious to see if we have any other creative people on this site!

I've been making Christmas mix CD's for family and friends for the past six years or so... always a hit... and being an artist allows me the luxury of designing my own CD covers, too..! Here's a peek at this year's CD cover...

That's a great idea---custom CDs for the family!

For ten years we compiled an annual Christmas novelties album (Christmas music/songs that are funny, ultra-old, or ultra-rare), first on cassette, then on CD. For the past few years we've been compiling a Christmas DVD with clips from Christmas movies and TV. They make great gifts or stocking-stuffers for long-distance friends.

I'm not sure how much I will make but I just bought the Taste Of Home - Homemade Food Gifts magazine. I have just browsed through it - looking forward to sitting down & going through the whole thing!

I'm in the process of writing about relatives and my parents. I want my kids to know little interesting facts about their relatives and how it was for me growing up. How I felt about aunts and uncles and cousins. Losing both my parents made me realize there are so many questions I wished I would have asked them, so I want to give my kids the opportunity to read about my world growing up, the neighbors, the relatives on my street and etc. Of course it all be wrapped up in a pretty bow but I will not sugar coat my words.
I want them to know their heritage and most of all to walk in love and truth.
