My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
But since thiis is my first Christmas in a new house I'm finding it harder to get into the Christmas spirit this year. I don't know if it's the new surroundiings but I have all the same decorations/tree yet I feel somewhat deflated...hopefully it shall pass before the season is over. In fact me and the kids are having a Christmas movie marathon tonight...see who can fall asleep first...so far my daughter has conked out to Santa Claus The Movie...just waiting for my son to do the same now LOL
I know that feeling! We went through it early in our marriage when we moved alot. It has largely to do with the fact that you haven't made a Christmas memory there yet. You'll get the spirit of it as you get closer to Christmas. Just hang in there with it -- I've totally been where you are!

That's understandable. Christmas has a lot to do with your traditions. The way things look and how you decorate. That will change with a new house, so it won't feel the same. You will just make new traditions and memories in your new house.
I know when I moved from Maryland to Texas, leaving my parents and siblings behind to start a new life with my wife (Christams-a-Holic), it took quite a while for things to feel right for me. But I have made new traditions and memories with my new wife and family.

I have been there before. When my daughter was just 3 years old we had to temporarily move in with her dad's family and it happened to be around Christmas. It was not what I wanted. I wanted our own place and just couldn't get in the spirit of the Christmas season but it passed and when it was the day itself I was fine!
We got our own place shortly after Christmas and I never had to rely on other family members since then for a place to live.
Thanks a lot guys. Good to know I'm not the only one. I lived in my previous house for 5 years and already as I'm writing about it, I can picture the snow in the garden and that feeling of cosiness you get at this time of year. I really hope my mood will pass soon...only 4 weeks

Years ago when we moved into our present home, I had the same feeling. We moved away from family and Christmas was filled with family and friends visiting. The first Christmas in our new home, no one visited but thank goodness my parents were able to be with us. In fact, I still miss Christmas time in my old home town. But it does get better.
