Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

I've just been watching the parade on youtube and it's awesome, much better than our Christmas parade lol. Is there a Christmas one or is this it? And did anyone actually go and see it?

This parade has been going on for 80 some years! It is an honor to participate in the parade. It is a tradition in my household to watch the parade. But I'm sorry to say that the Parade announcers have gotten away from it and are on their own agenda to make it more boring,.. I'm not big on hearing what they have to say, but seeing the balloons, floats, and bands. If you like that parade you should watch the Rose Parade that takes place in California. All of the floats have flora on them. That parade is over 100 years old. It takes place on Jan. 1st.

I agree that the announcers detract from the parade, for me.

I like those Today Show people but it's all a big advertisement for NBC TV shows and I don't need it.

Having said that, I have never been to the parade but we watch it religiously every year. Many people in the U.S. watch that parade!

I have heard that if you want to go see if you have to get there the night before and camp out but I don't know if that's true. It's such a huge deal in the U.S. that it wouldn't surprise me.

I agree with all of this. I enjoy the parade as much as the football bowl games. And I really like college football. Using so much natural material in such a creative way is very enjoyable. Its far less commercialized as well.

Disney has a Christmas parade, not as good as Macy's IMHO but its along the same lines. And Disney uses it to promote their various enterprises (mostly the theme parks).

Macy's is one of my Thanksgiving highlights. Great way to kick off a great holiday as well as the Christmas season. NBC does commercialize it (as does Macy's so commercialism has always been the point) but I just block it out and enjoy the balloons & bands. The announcers do offer enough good info that I don't "mute" them. LOL
