Lights

and this year more lights since I got several boxes on sale after Christmas last year so will have around 700 lights

I also put them up and down the branches inside the tree and around the trunk

then garland or beads or what ever I am using this year (not decided yet, waiting for Christmas in July sales to start!)

then decorations

and last of all the Angel on the top

We put the lights on, then decorations and finally the Angel. The tree is always the first thing we do.

I only put on 300 led lights on a 8ft tree i think after reading a few of your comments that more might be needed,i think i will get another 200 and we will see what 500 multi coloured leds look like,i will also put some around the trunk which is a good idea.

1. Lights put on row by row from bottom to top as I put the tree together
2. Tree topper
3. Ornaments, starting at the bottom and spacing them pretty evenly, going in a triangular pattern to the top of the tree

I used to try to get it all done quickly (a couple hours on the Saturday after Thanksgiving), but the past few years I've spread out the decorating jobs over Thanksgiving weekend. Less stressful that way!

Im the opposite to you whitney,i have to do everything in one day, good job i have no outdoor stuff to do so it normally takes around 12 hours non stop to get everything done but the tree is set up a day before ready for decorating.

Always lights first...drives me pretty crazy too and the last few years DH has helped me because I get crabby when I can't get them the way I want them! LOL! I always threaten to throw my old artificial tree out, but then I get all sappy and haul it out again the following year!

We only have the tree, a nativity, & my Santa collection, so it all goes up pretty quickly. I just take my time putting the ornaments on these days. DD's tree in her room is pre-lit, so I put it up, get out her ornaments, & let her decorate it the way she wants it. It gets redecorated a few times between Thanksgiving & Christmas!

Lights first. LOTS of lights.

Then the tree topper (because her cord has to be run down the center of the tree.

Then the beaded garland

Then the ornaments.
