when decorating the christmas tree

Do you put the decorations on first and then the lights because I was thinking that's how I've been doing it and it can get messy at times so I've thought this year the lights will go on first and then I can put the baubles and stuff on and work around the lights which sounds easier, how do you do yours?.

We always put lights on first. It takes quite a bit of time to put the tree up and get the lights on, so we usually put the decorations on a few days later. We started doing it that way because everyone would get tired or have something else they needed to do, but now I like having it spread out.

We put the lights on first, too. That way, you can view it lit up & see if you need to adjust any of the light strands around or anything. Plus, then you can fill in any gaps w/ the ornaments if needed. Our big tree is a pre-lit one, so that comes in handy!

I always put the lights on first, starting at the top and working my down and around the tree in a very random pattern (so as to mix up the light colors a bit) and then I put the angel on the top and then the decorations go on last!I also, break up the quantity of lights per two green extension cords (half the tree on one exxtension cord and the other half of the tree on the other extension cord, that way I don't overload an extension cord...

Lights on first. I cover all branches inside the tree as well as the outer part. Then add the decorations.

Same here. And Christmas-a-Holic gives good advice---if you twine your lights in toward the trunk instead of just threading them onto the tips, you get a better effect---a sort of glow from the inside out, as well as the lights on the "surface." Pre-lit trees and professionally lighted trees are usually wired that way.

Here is our order:

1. Lights
2. More lights
3. Beads
4. Ornaments
5. Icicles
6. Berries
7. Star on top
8. Decorate underneath the tree with the Christmas village

Last year we made our dad almost put 2000 lights on the tree - it was certainly bright and pretty! It's fun living with other Christmas fanatics!!
