Like MerryCarey, I am in Massachusetts but I am farther west and inland than she is. As I've said in the past (probably too much) on the forums my area has been hit hard the last 1.5-2 years by strange weather phenomena. 2 major nor'easters, one that dumped 30 inches of snow in less than a day, and the other last October that dropped a foot of snow and knocked out power for nearly 6 days. We had Hurricane Irene, in August 2011 she didn't do too much damage around here but it was stressful when we saw a tree fall and almost take out a neighbors house, missed it by a few feet. Of course the worst that happened was the tornado that struck June 1, 2011, it missed our house by less than 1/4 mile, we can see the damage from our front yard and really has sent our town reeling on high emotions when weather like this is predicted. I am really hoping that Sandy blows out to see but according to the latest weather updates that is not likely. My boys will be freaked out and this has been hardest on them. We are prepped for the worst, but hoping for the best.
I hope all stay safe in the path of Sandy.

I as well, with joyful, am in Central Pa. As she said, with the way they are prediciting the storm, we are going to be a direct hit from the storm. There is no way to tell though until it actually happens, so let's hope it changes!

They are saying it could be rain or snow - if it is rain, it could be 6 inches, they are prediciting, which will cause huge flooding, of course. I am almost hoping for snow - slow melting (hopefully), and less flooding.

Thanks RJD for the posts - DH listens to this, as you probably know. Thanks for posting this for everyone else. You are right - it's a great source!

Everyone else - thanks for your prayers and all of you as well keep safe. God Bless! Keep updated on here so we all know you're safe!

We stocked up on extra canned goods and bottled water, and cranked the freezers up as high as they will go so that food will stay frozen longer if electric goes out. I took all my outside Halloween decorations down this morning, and I think we're just about ready. The only really bad part about losing our electric is that we have a well. If the electric goes out, there's no water.

My parents have a well too - they always fill one of their bathtubs with water - to wash dishes, etc., when they know a big storm is hitting.

If you don't have any children or small pets, I've heard it recommended to fill up the bathtub with water, in case the electricity goes out. At least you would have water to flush toilets and whatnot.

Good luck, thinking of all in the path of this storm!
