Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

mine go up on 1st december and come down the first week in january.

to all our members that take them down on christmas day or a couple of days later, is there a reason why?

i don't think the christmas season ends until the first week in january. (then again it never ends to all of us, does it?)

I just finished putting up decorations at my brother's apartment! He always wants them up early, like Sept. 1st and he doesn't take them down until March! I put his tree in the front window, icicle lights in the windows and candles too. He wanted his wreath on his door as well so, for him the Christmas season has already started! The funny thing is that his apartment faces main street in his little town and everytime I decorate he leaves the lights on every night and all of my friends will send me emails to tell me that they saw his lights! They always know I was in town when they see that. Most people think it's pretty funny, there are one or two that don't like it. Who cares about them though.

We leave our tree up unitl the ephiany and the other decorations come down someime after that. I like to leave the fresh pine and lights out all winter. The pine stays green for quite a long time (it's surprising), and looks beautiful when the snow lays gently on the boughs.

The tree goes up between December 10th-15th and it comes down on New Years Day (January 1st). The outdoor and indoor decorations, however, go up on the very first weekend of December (sometimes last weekend of November if the earlier is too late). I can't wait to return home and view all the new stuff this year!

As for my apartment, I think we might put a few things up around November 23rd.. Just to give this place a little seasonal magic as we head towards the holidays as well as the exam period.
