It is a wonderful movie that people can identify with because of the time period and life's little quirks.
The narration is wonderful and I love the visit to Santa Claus in the department store.

A Christmas Story is a wonderful, funny film! A holiday must-see.

If you've not seen it, of course it will be shown again on tv this year. But, do yourself a favor and rent or buy the dvd in widescreen. Better picture and no commercials!

Of course, I'm a bit biased since much of the film was filmed in Cleveland...the female elf in the department store scene (the one that snarls, "Get goin', kid!") was a customer at the video store where I worked years ago. The house in Ohio City where the exteriors were filmed has been restored and is now a small museum.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is when younger brother Randy is so bundled up in his snowsuit that he can't get up after falling in the snow!

My Favorite part is when the little brother is under the sink crying and says "daddies going to kill Ralphie". I laugh every time I don't know why.

I saw it for the first time last year when TBS had 24h of a Christmas Story. I liked it, but didnt love it to where I'd buy the DVD, but would probably watch it on tv again if it was on.

I didn't like that movie. I don't know why, but I don't like it. Most people love it, but I just don't enjoy it.

LOL!

I used to sit under the sink, too. Can't believe now that I was ever small enough to fit under there.

Believe it or not, what makes A Christmas Story a masterpiece isn't so much the story -- the story itself is simplistic. But the writing is superb and the storytelling is masterful. It never fails to make me laugh when I hear the line where the narrator is talking about how his father would swear: "My father weaved a tapestry of profanity that is still hanging out there somewhere over Lake Michigan". Marvelous writing.

Remember the part where he is helping his old man change the tire? "I said fudge, but I didn't say fudge. I said the f-dash dash dash word, the Queen Mother of all swear words".

Wish I could write like that!
