My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
Last year we introduced the MMC Founder's Award, a special recognition for one individual over the course of the year who really demonstrated the Spirit of Christmas in our community. We wish to acknowledge those beyond-the-call-of-duty efforts to reach out to others, to showcase a servant's heart, to give in ways not measured alone in posts or pictures shared here.
Our very first recipient of this award, Caninemom3, is still a great example of the attributes we celebrate in the Founder's Award. You all know her from not only her year round presence but also for her one-on-one kindness. Thank you, Louanne, for continuing to shine.
There are many, many individuals who are worthy of this recognition. As I have observed the community over the course of the year I have seen so many personal contacts, sacrifices, kindnesses and even anonymous acts of giving by so many of you. It is quite the extraordinary thing, if you think about it, for the love and the goodness that resides amongst our regulars. Many of you are here year round and you share more than just Christmas. You share your lives -- the good, the not-so-good, and even the really tough stuff. This year we have had folks with difficult illnesses, job losses, or family problems. Our trials individually are often burdens borne by several here, out of the goodness of their hearts. What other communities are out there online who can say this?
This year's recipient is a person I admire greatly for her many talents. She is well spoken. She is quick to serve others. She is responsive to needs. She is a member of the Christmas Crew who never fails to offer an opinion, an idea, and even personal resources for the good of My Merry Christmas. She is:
Let me share with you a little about what Merry Carey has accomplished this year. In the early spring MerryCarey launched an auction through the "For Sale" section of My Merry Christmas for a hand-made afghan of her own design and production. She sold it and donated every dime of it to Santa's Sleigh. She repeated the feat this past month, raising several hundred dollars alone towards the total effort at Santa's Sleigh this year. Santa's Sleigh helped FOUR family situations this year and there is no way we could have accomplished that without these efforts specifically. These afghans were spectacular, by the way. I was a bidder in BOTH auctions because the quality of the work was REALLY that good.
You also know MerryCarey for her superb work on the Merry Podcast. Those contributions are written and produced by her -- every bit of them. She does this without compensation. The podcast is probably the most ambitious project we have ever undertaken because, let's face it, we don't know what the world we are doing. Merry does. She has a vision for what it can be and her efforts alone have elevated the effort overall and pushed us to improve the output, making it all better and better. Her Christmas movie knowledge is outstanding, her professional standards are very high. What a wonderful asset she has proven to be in these areas alone.
Merry is also a very valuable member of the Christmas Crew, one of those voices of steady wisdom I have come to rely on and go back to again and again as we sometimes stumble in the management of the community. She has ideas, she doesn't hesitate to suggest and she is eager to learn anything she doesn't yet have mastered (which isn't much).
I know many of you can tell me other things about Merry just from your own personal interactions with her. I've seen her reach out to those who are new and to those who have been here for a while. She constantly puts others first.
Please join me in extending a hand of thanks to Merry for her many, many fine contributions to MMC.
Thank you, Jeff, and all of you, from the deepest, humblest part of my heart. It was an amazing surprise to log on this morning and find myself the recipient of the Founder's Award---because all the things Jeff enumerated in his post, I've done because it has brought me great pleasure to do them. It's a plus that they are valued and enjoyed by others. The friendship and year-round Christmas spirit of you all are my inspirations for anything I do here, so I thank you all.
This is one of the merriest Christmas surprises I've ever had!
