This Christmas will be the first time I get to put my own tree up and I was just wondering when everyone else usually puts their tree(s) up? Growing up, we used to decorate our house around the 1st of December and then put the tree up around the 10th, but those 2 weeks before Christmas always seem to go by so fast and I never felt like I had quite enough time with the tree. I was also wondering if you guys put your tree up the same time you begin decorating your home, or do you wait until a little bit after to put it up?
Growing up our Christmas Trees didn't go up until two weeks before Christmas because they were real trees and might not last if they were set up earlier. We tried to leave them decorated until the first weekend in January, but some years they didn't last that long.
I have an artificial tree, so I put it up whenever the urge beckons me or my husband doesn't think it's too early.
This year it will go up the weekend following the American Thanksgiving so I'll have plenty of time to enjoy it.
The tradition at home is to put up the tree (and just the lights . . . 15 strands of mini lights [5 each of green, red, and clear] and 3 strands of those round soft glow lights [green, red, and white]). However, since i have been at college and in a dorm, I traditionally put up my four foot tree (with 9 strands . . . 3 each of the above colors) which would be 11 days before Thanksgiving (since finals are over around Dec. 8, I want time to enjoy it).
Mine goes up the day after Thanksgiving and always has since I was a child. My mom is as big a Christmas freak as I am!! That's where I learned it from to begin with.
My mom would leave a tree up all year if my dad would let her! LOL
We always get a real tree even here in sunny Florida! I just can't have a fake one. I love the smell and even the needle mess of a real tree. I put it up the day after Thanksgiving and really water it to death so it will last until Christmas. It's usually pretty dried out by Christmas day, but I don't care! I have to have a real tree!!
