My Merry Christmas Announcement

Christmas Controversy & Opinion Visit Defend Christmas.com Presented by Defend Christmas, this forum covers the difficult topics of the season -- from the famed and fabled War on Christmas to church and state debates to using the star or the angel on the Christmas tree. Modern Christmas celebration has it's complications -- schools are divided, some Christmas light displays are too much, some even argue that it is better to call it a "holiday" tree. Some merchants won't even say "Merry Christmas"! Where there is controversy, there is insanity. Even in Christmas.

Christmas Under Fire in the UK

The UK’s*Labour Party wants Christmas “downgraded”. In an article in today’s Daily Mail a Labour Party think tank report says that Christmas should be downgraded in favor of festivals from other religions to improve race relations. Citing that rural England remains “a largely white place” the report declares that multiculturalism demands equal time for other [...]

The Daily Mail loves stories like this... and has a reputation of not always getting things right!

From what I've heard the report was done by a think-tank that Labour have used in the past (quite a bit!) but I can't see anywhere that it says that Labour actually commisioned it - or will take a blind bit of notice!!!

However, it does seem that some of the think tanks that various parties use do seem to live on another planet...

I live in 'rural Britain' and it is indeed 'a largely white place' - but anyone could tell you that!!!

I can't see Gordon Brown downgrading Christmas - he's the son of a Church minister!

I really hope they don't downgrade Christmas. With that and the councils saying they might not to put up Christmas lights, Christmas won't ever be the same.

I work for the local government and I am happy to say that everything is progressing normally towards Christmas and all the town decorations and lights are almost all up
