It's not Christmas w/o Johnny Mathis! You'll never be disappointed with any of his Christmas CDs.

A few Recommendations

Really, I do like traditional Christmas tunes but feel them to be contrived & confining. Why buy the one hundred or so tunes that one can hear while shopping or from their "Holiday" broadcast station?

So, may I suggest?:

Capitol Records' Ultra Lounge Christmas Cocktails -

http://www.ultralounge.com/d_c_christmas_1.html
It's Christmastime and we've gone north for the holidays (North Pole that is!).
These eighteen hot toddies will surely melt your snowcone.
So deck the halls, spike the eggnog and hang the mistletoe, you're in Yulesville, baby! Ho-Ho-Ho.
Cheers!

Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer Mambo - Billy May
Winter Wonderland - Peggy Lee
Christmas Trumpets / We Wish You A Very Merry Christmas - Ray Anthony
Christmas Is - Lou Rawls
Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town / White Christmas - Jimmy McGriff
I'd Like You For Christmas - Julie London
Holiday On Skis - Al Caiola & Riz Ortolani
(Everybody's Waitin' For) The Man With The Bag - Kay Starr
Jingle Bells / Jingle Bell Rock - Hollyridge Strings
I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm - Dean Martin
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus / Jingle Bells BossaNova - Eddie Dunstedter
Christmas Kisses - Ray Anthony
I'll Be Home For Christmas / Baby, It's Cold Outside - Jackie Gleason/Jack Marshall
What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? - Nancy Wilson
Cha-Cha All The Way - Capitol Studio Orchestra
The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You) - Nat King Cole
The Nutcracker Suite - Les Brown & His Band Of Renown
Ring Those Christmas Bells - Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians

http://www.ultralounge.com/d_c_christmas_2.html

Christmastime is here again and Santa's mixed up another batch of intoxicating hi-fi holiday highballs, cooler than Jack Frost's smile and sweeter than a candy cane swizzlestick.
If these 18 hot chestnuts don't jingle your bells, then you're Scrooged, man.
Fruitcake!

Sleigh Ride/Jingle Bells - Caiola & Ortolani/Jimmy McGriff
Jingle All The Way - Lena Horne
Merry Christmas, Baby - Lou Rawls
Warm December - Julie London
Let It Snow! / Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer - Eddie Dunstedter
The Merriest - June Christy
All I Want For Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth) - Nat King Cole Trio
The Christmas Waltz - Nancy Wilson
I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm/Jing-A-Ling - Les Brown/Starlighters
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - Jimmy McGriff
Baby, It's Cold Outside - Dean Martin
Snowfall/Snowfall Cha-Cha - George Shearing/Billy May
Jingle Bell Rock - Wayne Newton
Frosty The Snowman - The Ventures
Christmas Island - Bob Atcher & The Dinning Sisters
Exotic Night - Martin Denny
Happy Holiday - Peggy Lee
Sleigh Ride/Santa Claus' Party - Ferrante & Teicher/Les Baxter
Plus special surprise bonus tracks

BLUES BEFORE SUNRISE
Annual Christmas Program
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water - here it is again - the Annual Blues Before Sunrise Christmas Program! Every year it's the same old Christmas records and in pretty much the same order, but listeners love 'em! Charles Brown, Amos Milburn, Billy Eckstine, Louis Jordan, Nat King Cole, B.B.King, Mahalia Jackson and many more! Over the years we've found so many Christmas Blues records we don't have time for all of them - we have to decide who gets played and who gets benched this holiday. Actually it's fun no matter how many times you've heard the Blues Before Sunrise Christmas Program! And here's the Red-Hot news - we've actually located and included a handful of new Christmas records!

I have the Time Life collection and I really like it. I just have so many favorites actually! I love Nat King Cole and the Nutcracker Suite. Of course, Amy Grant!

It's Christmas music--what's to hate?!?

These are some of my (non-trad) favs:

The Christmas Sessions by MercyMe: http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Sess...dp/B000AA304I/ Winter Wonderland/White Christmas is just funky and Joseph's Lullaby always gets me blubbing

Christmas Offerings by Third Day: http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Offe...dp/B000I0QKJC/ Gotta love their take on Joy to the World!

City on a Hill: It's Christmas Time http://www.amazon.com/City-Hill-Its-...dp/B00006IR5W/ Manger THrone is one of my fav songs ever - not just Christmas!

If you want a different take on trads try the piano versions by Doug Boldt: http://music.podshow.com/music/liste...90101e895672b7 just beautiful and worth every cent! And all recorded on the bashed up old piano in the Church where he's the pastor!

Thanks for all the links RadioJonD, I'll have to look them up!

Yes! After Bing's CD, my next favorite is "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" (or was it "Christmas with Conniff"?). My dad used to play it when we were kids, in the 80's, and at the time, I hated it. So old-fashioned. Now I love it, for that very reason. It exemplifies an old-fashioned, fun Christmas, and brings back memories. If only I had appreciated it at the time.

PS - I have your icon as my PC wallpaper, and have used it every season for years. I love that picture! "O Christmas Tree" by Jesse Barnes.

I really enjoy the Christmas CDs by The Brian Setzer Orchestra. Each CD (I think there are 2) has a few well-known classic tunes, a few remakes of more obscure tunes, and a couple of originals (or really obscure remakes). They're all great and really fun. I particularly like the CD titled "Boogie Woogie Christmas"

I really like the Casey Kasem All Time Christmas Favorites CD's for a compilation:
http://www.amazon.com/Casey-Kasem-Ti...4555118&sr=8-1
I agree w/ RadioJonD, if you buy an entire CD's of the same artist & also compilations, you are going to get duplicates, but I like to listen to a whole cd by the same singer...to sit & listen to a whole cd of Amy Grant, Randy Travis, Reba, Perry Como, etc.....ahhhh...that's cozy/Christmas to me!!
