Generic present, what a great term I'll have to remember that. I like giving people generic presents just cos it's great fun to do. I think the concept of 'un-birthdays' as in Alice in Wonderland has got a lot to it as well... when it's not your birthday it's your un-birthday - so happy un-birthday to me!

My Dad feels the same as you about St V's day Jeff!

2 things

1) As a girl I LOVE getting roses on valentines, and usually I get some around christmas/my birthday/anniversary. I LOVE them!

I think that is the last .20 cents on a card that doesn't get spent when you buy an item. Also the people that lose/forget/damage the cards.

Wouldn't you prefer something that took a little more thought. I think that picking out gift instead of going with the old stand buy makes it even more special. Roses on Valentines day is like a Tie on Fathers day. I would like to be a little more creative than that.

Usually it's roses + a real gift. Also usually he gets the unusual colorful roses instead of regular red. I think my favorite was a dark pink with orange outlines. I love the way they smell.

Exactly -- just because in the middle of August means a lot more than joining the frenzy in February.

[Of course, using that logic I now have an excuse to put off sending my Christmas cards till March]

star as far as I know

expiry dates here in Ontario Canada are no longer allowed on gift cards. I do not always buy them myself, but have received them. My ex buys them for the kids all the time (only gift he gives now as they are easier for him) The ones I get I always use.

I don't care to receive gift cards myself. If I do get one, I make it a point to use it within a month. I usually don't give them, unless we have a gift card exchange, but then we can request them from certain places. I am going to buy them this year, though. I have some 15 (or so) nieces and nephews that I don't know well. I'd just as soon get them a gift card than something that they would have no interest in. Last year, I shopped for gifts and didn't think they were received all that well. We'll see how it goes, though. I do plan on taking the time to wrap them in a unique way.
