Sorry Clare - missed that bit!! She (Joanne Kathleen Rowling) lives about 30 miles away from me in one direction and 60 in the other (two houses in Scotland alone)
I met her at a book reading. She supports a local cancer charity and this charity were opening a new respite home so she agreed to do a reading from her latest book (it was the Goblet of Fire) All money raised went to this charity. Anyway for every ticket sold, Jo would sign a book. As we had 2 tickets, we got 2 books signed. We were lucky; Bruce (aged about 11 I think) and I were pretty much the last in the queue and when we got to the table, she spoke to Bruce and said something like "Hi, what's your name" and he just got totally starstruck and babbled something uncomprehensible!! She looked at me and grinned and then asked him which his favourite book was, to which he answered "Uuuuhhhgh" or words to that effect. She looked at me again and I said "That was supposed to be The Prisoner of Azkaban"!!!! So she and I had a quick chat and then we left with 2 signed copies and she with writers cramp!!!
Speaking of Wales... When I was talking to me Dad today to wish him a happy happy he asked If I would like to go to Wales with him next September. I almost fell of me chair when he asked. I of course said yes. I went to Europe when I was 17 and then to Mexico when I was 22 but the passport hasn't seen much action since( I kept renewing it hoping I was going to get to travel) and now it seems like I will!
Im from Swansea in South Wales. I do hope you will come over to visit us. It is a fantastic country with plenty of beautiful beaches and countryside, depending on what type of holiday you are planning to have, Id suggest to visit South Wales!! Cardiff, the capital is awesome for shopping. Swansea has the best of both, the Mumbles/gower and city life. It is also the home of Dylan Thomas too and Catherine Zeta Jones amongst many others. Oh and Anthony Hopkins is only from up the road!!!
Check out the link I sent it will give you tons of info!!!

We lived in Germany for 3 1/2 years and visited the UK...drove all over England, Northern Wales (even stopped in Swansea for a lovespoon or two), Ireland and Scotland. I think what I loved the most was how green everything was. The beautiful flowers growing along the side of the roads and the countryside. The food was really good too. My daughter fell in love with the Welsh cakes. I was lucky enough to meet a lady from Wales (lives in Swansea) that shared her recipe with me. I'm just having a real hard time finding dried currants here in the States. So, I haven't tried it out yet.
I would love to go back...it was so beautiful and big and we didn't see nearly all of what was there. The history and castles are just amazing!
I like the used bookstores, always find great deals there. I love the country side and small villages. And of course Christmas shopping in London but also in small towns. Went to Rochester last year, which is a Charles Dickens town and it was just so magical !
It is in giving that you receive the greatest gift !
