Rodmonster - thank you so much for sharing those wonderful pictures! I am very touched that your wife AND your friends all took you to the museum. That was real love!

I think that I will have to go alone to that museum. But - perhaps not. Everyone does love Christmas.... they're not used to loving Christmas for as much of the year as we do!

Thanks Annette for sharing the link. It brought back memories. My hometown did not have a Woolworth's but we had other five and dime stores: Murphys; Grants; and McCrorys.
Murphys had two floors and when you walked into the main floor you could smell the popcorn popping (10 cents a big bag) and the cashews roasting. Downstairs was the housewares and Christmas decorations, it was so grand.

McCrorys was a nice store too. I remember no air condition so the doors would be open and the windchimes would blow in the breeze from the fans. The floors were wooden as was Murphy's floors, this store now is an Italian Restaurant. McCrory's also had a soda fountain.

Grants also had wooden floors and had an upstairs. These stores were so much fun to shop in during the Christmas season. They would play Christmas music and when their doors were open it would filter out on the sidewalk. My Mother-in law worked at the Grants in my husband's hometown, she was working there when I got married. But of course like all the rest, the store no longer exist.

My husband's hometown had a Woolworths store and it was still open when we got married and lived there.

Rod, thanks for posting the neat pictures, I enjoyed looking at them.
