My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
Yes Annette I did get it. Thank You! I do understand the need to keep trolls away and the problems they can cause. Due to my new job, I am unable to come around to the boards or the chat like I want to. I was stunned when this happen tonight. I would have understood it if I started causing problems in the chat room but I barely had a chance to tell you and Head Elf HI when all this started. I felt like I had done something wrong and was being banned. You are right that the process does need to be changed. I would not wish how I felt over this on anyone.
I totally understand Minta. I feel the same way at times when asked but its a procedure that some have come up with and it has worked but it is unerving I agree...it would be great if we members continue to sign into chat as we do now but add a password. So that there isnt anymore asking who you are and a password only some of us know etc etc..I hope other chatters give their input to so we all can come up with a better solution.
no individual is being targeted, the regular chatters are just trying to protect themselves. i am also a victim of someone using my name and being a pain in everyones rear. luckily this was after the password was being used so no harm no foul. if not for the password there would have been alot of members upset with me. doesn't seem like much is asked to come chat, all you have to know is the password. if you do not know we are gonna assume that you are not real, and that someone is using your name to do harm. if you do not know the password ask the person who is pm'ing you to send it to you on here. don't go getting all upset when you are questioned. we are just trying to protect ourselves and your name
I didn't even know that the chat room was password coded. When I ask what was going on, I was asked if I was a member and on which site. I am a member on here and a couple other sister sites. I was still asked to leave. I sat here crying debating on whether or not I was going to stay a member here cause I felt like I was being banned for what ever reason. Needless to say I decided against leaving. I am not arguing the fact that something needs to be done to keep the trolls out but what I went through tonight could have and should have been avoided. As for people using other names, that is just plain childish and cowardly and they need to grow up.
I talked to Jeff about the chat around a week and a half ago. He's got a solution, but he's pretty busy.
Until then, perhaps you should find other venues for your chats. Like I've said before, there are several choices here. AOL instant messenger for example has a private chat feature and is free to download. If not, you'll just have to understand that there may be some hostility in the Christmas Chatter chats.
I understand all this also. But when you don't get the e-mail saying this is the password it doesn't help. Plus when you do agree on a password and the person who came up with it still calls you a troll, doesn't help the cause. I gave it three times one night and the person still didn't believe me. And my name was used in a very ugly way also. I told Jeff this and he assured me that I was ok and he was working on the problem. He has a job like the rest of us and he depends on other people to help out. But that still doesn't mean that you can hurt someone else. That's how you lose members.
I'm afraid that's happened to me too. I was challenged and even though I gave the password, I was still ignored.
After a PM, it appears to be sorted (haven't tried at a busy time again, so really don't know) but it's a horrible feeling, especially when you don't get on that often - in my case due to the time difference. When I DO manage to be there at the same time as other people and people don't believe I'm me (as if there could be another - really, people!!!!!) it's really frustrating as you do as you're asked and it STILL doesn't seem to convince folk
As Annette, Gingerbug & Steven have said there have been people in the chat room using there names plus Head Elf's, Jeff's & mine saying really rude & nasty things. We don't mean to offend anyone when we ask the password, we are just trying to keep our sight friendly. I am sorry if I upset anyone when they were on the chat,We have to figure out a way to get the password to everyone, If you don't know the password & want to come into the chat PM any of us so we can give it to you. That way members will have the password before they get into the chat room.
