My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
Since all of us here agree that Christmas is our favorite holiday.....what is your second favorite holiday and why. Since I asked the question, I will start it off.
For me, its Thanksgiving. Before I go any further, I would like to mention one thing. I know that not everyone in this country may have much to be thankful for due to certain reasons. I understand that many may not feel the same as I do and these reflections are mine alone.
I guess the reason I like Thanksgiving is because in my mind, I like the idea of people through out this country sitting down together with family, friends, loved ones, or neighbors and having a Thanksgiving meal. I still feel the same way about Thanksgiving now as I did when I was a child.
I also like the idea that maybe for one day, we can just slow down, take a moment or two and relax and be grateful for all the things we have......whether its friends, family, a stable job, good health, or even material possesions that we may have. I feel that its just a solemn day.
I like having turkey with all the trimmings like vegetables, stuffing, potatoes, and so forth. And when I am done eating, I will usually wait 30 minutes or so, and have pumpkin pie. And finally I will usually take a walk through our neighborhood and see what Christmas lights are out.
To me, I feel that Thanksgiving is a truly overlooked holiday by many.
I agree with Thanksgiving too.
Getting together with family and friends, football, the kids playing, remember those who are gone or have moved away and could not make it back home. Remembering the past while making new memories and of course the food.
