The President pro tempore US Senate, Daniel Inouye, of Hawaii has died at age 88. While some might disagree with his politics, Senator Inouye was a true American hero. Following a ban on Japanese-Americans serving in the armed forces, he enlisted in the Army and led a his men into heavy German fire in Italy, eventually losing an arm. For his service he won the Medal of Honor, among other decorations, and entered politics when he could no longer pursue his goal of being a surgeon.
