Sony Pictures just released the first trailer for the only Christmas-themed movie coming out in 2015 — the comedy starring Seth Rogen now titled “The Night Before“. The online-only preview is filled with profanity and inappropriate for general audiences. You can find it on YouTube. That’s your first clue that this isn’t your Mama’s Christmas comedy and your yuletide sensibilities are in for a bit of a jolt.
Rogen stars with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie as three friends celebrating one last Christmas Eve together. The trio has a 14-year tradition of hell raising every Christmas Eve, a habit that has to die due to impending fatherhood for Rogen and the growing fame of Mackie’s sports celebrity character.
How bad is it? Think Bad Santa married with Stand By Me.
Rogen stars as a Jewish man desecrating a Christian Christmas Eve service, wearing a Star of David ugly Christmas sweater while high and throwing up. Their party night turns crazy thanks to the intersection of drugs and their own anxieties about impending life changes. “The Night Before” was directed by Jonathan Levine. There is, of course, homage paid to Miley Cyrus in this hipster Christmas fantasy run amok.
Christmas fans will have little to cheer with this release.
