Today is Bob Rivers Day of Christmas. On this day in 1956 the world introduced Robert Rivers who would come to radio prominence in the 1980s and a star of Christmas comedy in the 1990s.
Bob Rivers radio comedy has seen his Christmas parodies hit the top 25 on Billboard charts.
Rivers’ first Christmas album, Twisted Christmas, surprised audiences in 1988 with his biting humor and dead-on impressions. From Jack Nicholson to Elvis, this sarcastic take on the absurd of Christmas from shopping to annoying relatives opened a new era in Christmas comedy that coincided with film comedies such as Christmas Vacation that poked fun at modern American holiday traditions.
His Christmas album, I am Santa Claus, climbed the charts in 1993 with his still often-played spoof of Black Sabbath’s Iron Man.
In all, Rivers has released five Christmas albums that get regular and loving replay each holiday season, much to the dismay of Moms and Christmas purists everywhere.
