People used to spending winter in frigid conditions can enjoy a warm winter getaway to Newport Beach, California, home of the Christmas Boat Parade, host city for the BCS, and restaurant week.

The 105th annual Christmas Boat Parade sets sail December 18th through the 22nd and will feature dozens of boats decorated with lights, ornaments, and amazing holiday displays.

This year's theme is "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" as the boats navigate their way around the nearly 15-mile route through Newport Harbor, the largest small-craft harbor in America.

Named the #2 Destination for Holiday Lights by Yahoo Travel in 2011, the Newport Beach Boat Parade attracts about a million viewers each year.
"This is a tradition that spans generations, as we see grandparents, parents and children among the million people who come from all over the world for an up close look at the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade," said Vicki Higgins, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Visit Newport Beach Inc.

"Clark Griswold would be proud of our boat parade, which features some of the most amazing holiday displays you will ever see," said Higgins. "When you add in the Ring of Lights home decoration contest, the Roger's Gardens' amazing holiday display and Fashion Island's spectacularly massive Christmas tree, Newport Beach is an incredible destination to escape from cities blanketed in snow and suffering from the chill of winter."
Newport Beach is also proud to be the host city for the teams, bands, alumni, and media for the NCAA's Vizio Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game. College football's two best teams will square off January 6th at Pasadena's Rose Bowl, but the teams, fans, and media will call Newport Beach home the week leading up to the game.

"Like 2010, when Newport Beach hosted the players, coaches, alumni for Alabama and Texas, the city will come alive the first week of January 2014 with team spirit for the teams playing for the BCS National Championship," said Higgins.

Newport Beach's other big event in January is Restaurant Week, which runs from January 17th through January 26th and features special prix fixe meals at some of the hottest restaurants. The Newport Beach Restaurant Week was the first such event in Orange County.
