Hallelujah: Is it a Christmas Song?

How can a song with up to 80 original verses be considered a Christmas song? (Or how can it not?) In it’s original form Hallelujah contained several Biblical references.

Hallelujah was written in 1984 by Leonard Cohen and has gone on to great fame with covers by several artists. Last year, we were given this Christmas version by Cloverton:

When this video emerged last Christmas it was assumed by some that the song was new and intended to be Christmas-themed. It wasn’t and it is not. The song easily lends itself to broad interpretation and there are many themes, not all of them even Biblical.
