Russ Lorenson<\/strong><\/a>‘s new Christmas<\/a> CD released recently is titled “In the Holiday Spirit” and features the Kelly Park Big Band. The CD is a refreshing throwback to Christmas<\/a> swing and the glitter that only big band can bring to Christmas<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Most amazing is the fact that Lorenson pulls this off without the classics of Rudolph<\/em>, Let it Snow<\/em> or White Christmas<\/a><\/em>. Most are lesser-known classics that are familiar but give his offering a fresh feel. <\/p>\n

The album kicks off with Shake Hands with Santa<\/a> Claus<\/em>, a 50s-era tune made famous first by Louis Prima (hear it here<\/strong><\/a>). But Santa<\/a> isn’t the only Claus Lorenson gives a nod to — the tune Mrs. Claus<\/em> is from by San Francisco composers Candace Forrest & Nancy Schimmel that honors a woman who spends every Christmas<\/a> Eve alone. <\/p>\n

Other classic selections include Aretha Franklin\u2019s happy homage to the joys of \u201cKissin\u2019 By The Mistletoe,\u201d Julie London\u2019s \u201cWarm In December,\u201d Dean Martin\u2019s bluish hit \u201cThe Christmas<\/a> Blues,\u201d and \u201cA Winter Romance.\u201d In each Lorenson’s warm, enthusiastic swing makes for festive listening.
