{"id":24105,"date":"2016-06-08T09:31:55","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T15:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/?p=24105"},"modified":"2016-06-08T09:33:04","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T15:33:04","slug":"grinch-remake-delayed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/grinch-remake-delayed\/","title":{"rendered":"Grinch Remake Delayed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has only been a couple of months since the <a href=\"http:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/cumberbatch-to-voice-the-grinch-in-remake\/\"><strong>announcement of an animated remake<\/strong><\/a> of <em>How the Grinch Stole <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a><\/em> &#8212; but that&#8217;s time enough to now announce a full year delay to the project. The film will now come out for <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> 2018. <\/p>\n<p>Producers cite no official reason for the delay but industry speculation is that the original November 2017 release date was too ambitious in the first place. <\/p>\n<p>But we have another theory. <\/p>\n<p>Having watched <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> movies come and go over the years the answer is quite simple: they only release <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> movies at Christmastime any more. <\/p>\n<p>If this were a normal movie it might make more sense to release it around Memorial Day. But it is a <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> movie and as such there is only one acceptable window for release and when you can&#8217;t make it for whatever reason it gets delayed for another year. <\/p>\n<p>The project enjoyed a boost of publicity with the announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch would voice the Grinch. <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> purists, however, remain on alert knowing this film comes on the heels of a preachy and agenda driven <em>Lorax<\/em> production that to many stray too far from the Dr. Seuss original. <\/p>\n<p>Ron Howard&#8217;s 2000 live action remake of <em>How the Grinch Stole <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a><\/em> is similarly criticized for its bizarre subplot of the early life of the Grinch and the unpredictable antics of lead Jim Carrey.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has only been a couple of months since the announcement of an animated remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas &#8212; but that&#8217;s time enough to now announce a full year delay to the project.
