\"die-hard-hans\"<\/a>Die Hard<\/em> is an aptly named movie. It just won\u2019t go away \u2013 and it shouldn\u2019t. <\/p>\n

For years we have consistently polled it as a Christmas<\/a> movie. That means we ask YOU, our readers and it ranks with other movies as a Christmas<\/a> classic \u2013 unsolicited. <\/p>\n

It is again in the news as Amazon has released a behind the scenes book about Die Hard<\/em> that some say settles the \u201cIs it a Christmas movie?\u201d question<\/strong><\/a> at last. <\/p>\n

In a nutshell they say, NO, and if you think Die Hard<\/em> is a Christmas<\/a> movie you\u2019re a whackjob. <\/p>\n

Their logic is flawed, of course. <\/p>\n

They say that since Christmas<\/a> isn\u2019t intrinsic to the storyline of the movie it\u2019s not a Christmas<\/a> movie. <\/p>\n

Well, hold on, bucko. <\/p>\n

If that is what makes a Christmas<\/a> movie we can delete a lot of Christmas<\/a> movies from the list then, starting with the #1, Queen Mother of all Christmas<\/a> movies, It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/em>. <\/p>\n

Or The Bishop\u2019s Wife<\/em>. Or Home Alone<\/em>. Or even Elf<\/a><\/em>, for that matter. <\/p>\n

You want to go there, pal? I didn\u2019t think so. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s why Die Hard<\/em> is a Christmas<\/a> movie: because we say so<\/em>. <\/p>\n

It gives us that Christmas<\/a> glow. It makes us think of Christmas<\/a>. It give us good cheer and makes us want to give, baby. <\/p>\n

Besides, what\u2019s NOT Christmasy about John McClane? <\/p>\n

When he says \u201cJust once, I’d like a regular, normal Christmas<\/a>. Eggnog<\/a>, a f***in’ Christmas<\/a> tree, a little turkey. But, no! I gotta crawl around in this mother***in’ tin can!\u201d<\/em> \u2013 you know who he sounds like? He sounds just like George Bailey. <\/p>\n

Think about it. <\/p>\n

And Hans Gruber, the greatest villain this side of Heat Miser? When he says \u201cNow I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho.\u201d<\/em> we just get all gushy inside. <\/p>\n

So get off it. <\/p>\n

Die Hard<\/em> is a Christmas<\/a> movie and it\u2019s a great Christmas<\/a> movie. <\/p>\n

And it is the best of the best kind of Christmas<\/a> movie \u2013 you can play it year round and nobody looks at you cross-eyed because of it. <\/p>\n
