It tells a simple story. It features a simple tune. It offers simple harmonies.<\/p>\n<p>That is why so many modern versions of <em>Silent Night<\/em> drive me crazy. It is just so often very over done (Look up Beyonce on YouTube &#8212; it&#8217;s an ear-bleeder).<\/p>\n<p>That is why I like this more subdued traditional take just released by Home Free:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U1dWXE-B4sw\" frameborder=\"0\" gesture=\"media\" allow=\"encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What I like about Home Free is that they take sacred songs seriously.<\/p>\n<p>There is nothing remotely secular about <em>Silent Night<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>We <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/sneaking-christmas\/\">love<\/a> secular <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> music and feature a lot of it but sacred <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> music really does not belong in the hands of those who do not respect it.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Sinatra very famously detested <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> music. But an artist of his time just could not avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> music. Today there is an entire generation of music fans who never knew Frank Sinatra when he was alive and even they can tell the difference between his <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> music and nearly everything else.<\/p>\n<p>Of Sinatra&#8217;s best loved songs of <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> none of the sacred classics really make the list of anyone&#8217;s favorites &#8212; just the secular stuff like <em>Jingle Bells<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You can tell when an artist is just mailing it in. <em>Silent Night<\/em> is not a song, simple as it is, to just fake.<\/p>\n<p>Now, if we&#8217;re really being traditional this song should be performed with guitars, as it was originally. The <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/the-true-story-of-silent-night\/\"><strong>history of <em>Silent Night<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, after all, is like the song &#8212; simple.<\/p>\n<p>Hailing from early 19th century Germany <em>Silent Night<\/em> was first played in a church on a snowy <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> Eve that had nothing but guitars to accompany it (there&#8217;s a legend about mice that ate the bellows of the pipe organ in the church behind this story).<\/p>\n<p>But can&#8217;t you picture it? Snow. <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> Eve. Germany. <em>Silent Night.<\/em> Guitars.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re sure the first performance of this song left many in that little church pondering the <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> story in a serious way.<\/p>\n<p>We believe modern performers can sing <em>Silent Night<\/em>.
