\"\"Hollywood just won\u2019t quit. They just cannot wait to showcase Santa<\/a> Claus again in a horrible way. Just announced is an all new Santa<\/a> film to be called Fatman<\/em> that will star Mel Gibson as Santa<\/a> Claus.<\/p>\n

Fatman<\/em> will showcase Gibson as a rowdy, unorthodox Santa<\/a> who is fighting the decline of his business.<\/p>\n

If that\u2019s not a weak enough premise they mix in a 12 year old character who is so displeased with Santa<\/a> Mel that he hires a hitman to knock off The Jolly Old Elf<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yeah. Can you believe they think this is a good idea? <\/em>I\u2019ll bet Gibson\u2019s Santa<\/a> has to be unorthodox with a plot line like that.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure the producers and writers are feeling<\/a> emboldened by the success of Kurt Russell\u2019s hip Santa<\/a> from the Netflix film titled The Christmas<\/a> Chronicles<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What they don\u2019t understand is that the reason Russell\u2019s Santa<\/a> found so much success was not because he was unorthodox. In fact, quite the opposite. Russell\u2019s Santa<\/a> may be been set in a modern day situation but he still had all of Santa\u2019s old magic. That\u2019s what people love<\/a>. That is what people want to see.<\/p>\n

But, mark my words, this will go down in history as another in a long line of Santa<\/a> failures.<\/p>\n

Think about it. How many bad Santas have we seen over the years?<\/p>\n

Chris Elliott, Leslie Nielsen, George Wendt, Paul Sorvino, and Billy Bob Thorton are just the first few members of the bad Santa<\/a> hall of fame.<\/p>\n

Even famous actors in decent Christmas<\/a> movies have been bad Santas. Ed Asner in Elf<\/a><\/em> was one of the gloomiest Santas ever on film, for example.<\/p>\n

You cannot have a good Santa<\/a> in a bad Christmas<\/a> movie. If Santa<\/a> is going to be any good both the story and the actor have to excellent.<\/p>\n

Edmund Gwynn and Tim Allen were great Santas. And why? Because they had great stories and they were Santa-like.<\/p>\n

Gibson playing Santa<\/a> as a businessman whose customers want to kill him is not \u201cdarkly comedic\u201d, as the producers have described the script. There is nothing relatable in that. \u00a0In fact, Fatman<\/em> sounds like a really bad Saturday Night Live skit.<\/p>\n

The movie films next year in Canada but only if it can get funding.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re hoping that somewhere along the line someone will look at how stupid this is and pulls the plug.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
