Between the drought, pandemic supply-chain issues, and wild fires a perfect storm is shaping up that may affect your ability to get a <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> tree this year.<\/p>\n<p>Growers of <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> trees are lamenting the high-heat summer weather that is affecting their tree farms. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/07\/26\/us\/christmas-trees-heat-wave.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>New York Times<\/strong><\/a> reports that Oregon, one of the largest producers of <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> trees in the nation, is especially hard hit. But the recent &#8220;heat dome&#8221; over the Pacific Northwest is affecting all growers in the region:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8Ak5QzJ6bE4\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The story for California <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> tree growers is similar &#8211; if not worse. Because of the drought, and the heat, growers are <a href=\"https:\/\/nbcpalmsprings.com\/2021\/07\/02\/local-christmas-tree-farmer-not-sure-if-we-will-have-supply-this-year-it-depends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>concerned for having Christmas trees<\/strong><\/a> for the next several years.<\/p>\n<p>In other parts of the country the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news5cleveland.com\/news\/local-news\/christmas-tree-farmers-worry-about-supply-chain-costs-ahead-of-2021-holiday-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>worries for Christmas trees<\/strong><\/a> in 2021 range from not having employees available to cut down trees to not having shipments of new trees arrive before <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a>. The supply-chain woes were a problem last <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> with the pandemic but it appears shipping concerns have not yet cleared up &#8211; and time is running short.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> trees is expected to remain high, mostly due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen-times.com\/story\/news\/local\/2020\/12\/10\/nc-lots-farms-high-demand-short-supply-christmas-trees\/3858678001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>inability to supply new trees last year<\/strong><\/a> as projected.<\/p>\n<p>Supply chain and shipping issues are also increasing prices. <a href=\"https:\/\/fox8.com\/news\/toy-stores-warn-christmas-supply-could-be-low\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toy stores are already saying they are short<\/a> and Matel, one of the largest makers of toys, has warned of significant price increases due to the shortage of materials and cost overruns that were not anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/kiwaradio.com\/local-news\/supply-chain-expert-says-order-christmas-gifts-now-or-else\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>some experts are saying that Christmas shopping should happen earlier this year<\/strong><\/a> because nearly every category of products related to <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> could be in short supply.<\/p>\n<p>Even pumpkin this year could be hard to fine, either fresh or canned. Weather is again the culprit. In the west, it&#8217;s the drought. In the east, it is all the moisture combined with the high heat that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pantagraph.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/fungus-hitting-illinois-pumpkin-crops-could-be-devastating-to-industry\/article_c039facb-daea-55fb-b43a-af4e2ef87c59.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>killing the pumpkin crops<\/strong><\/a>. Weather has already killed crops in Connecticut, Illinois and Alabama. Smaller crops are expect all throughout the west.<\/p>\n<p>Underscoring all these concerns is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/walterloeb\/2021\/07\/07\/another-crisis-in-retail-labor-shortage-will-get-worse\/?sh=76c0a8de6a86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>labor shortage<\/strong><\/a> seemingly affecting retailers from coast-to-coast.<\/p>\n<p>It all adds up to <a href=\"https:\/\/mymerrychristmas.com\/x\/celebrating-20-years-of-the-merry-forums\/\">Christmas<\/a> 2021 being a season to really be prepared.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getting a Christmas tree might be a problem this year.
