Bad Santa 2 to Begin Filming Soon

According to multiple sources Bad Santa is getting a sequel and Billy Bob Thornton will be back to play the most pathetic figure of Santa Claus ever put on film.

Entourage director Doug Ellin told Collider that his plans following the work on his latest release this summer will be to begin filming Bad Santa 2 in September.

“I’m supposed to do Bad Santa 2 in September,” the director explained, discussing his upcoming slate. When asked to specify, he was wary of giving details but said, “We’re working on the script right now and if we get it right, we’ll shoot it in September/October, Billy Bob is back and good to go.”

Don’t expect the sequel to be anything less than a Hard-R at the box office. Ellin is on record as stating that his purposes are to keep the sequel’s spirit in line with the harsh comedy of the original.

Bad Santa was popular with 20-somethings more than a decade ago but it was widely panned by critics and has never achieved the cult-status of holiday perennial favorite like Elf that it hoped to achieve. Serious Santa fans decried the film and parent groups protested. It is doubtful that a sequel will raise the outcry the original achieved, especially if the script is weak and its original audience does not respond to the new effort.
