Real and Rumored New Christmas Music of 2016

New Christmas music is released each year traditionally in the months of September, October and November. While country music fans have a lot to celebrate this year with several major artists coming out with albums the news has been a little slow this year for artists in other genres. Here is a brief recap of some of the major releases we know about or have heard rumored:

1. Jimmy Buffett’s new Christmas album “‘Tis the SeaSon” will be released on October 28, 2016. It is now available For Pre-Sale at Mailboat Records. On the Bing and Bong show Jimmy said the name of the album is “‘Tis the SeaSUN”. No information is currently available on the song list for the album. His last Christmas album was 1996’s “Christmas Island”.

2. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are all over the tabloids and Hollywood press over their relationship, their pre-nup woes and their December wedding. Rumors abound of a new Christmas album from their pair, which would make this the third Christmas in a row with Shelton in the public eye at Christmas given all his Christmas music and Christmas television specials.

3. Herb Alpert is still kickin’ and evidently he is in the studio working on another Christmas album. His 1968 Christmas album is a classic and though now 80 years old we bet he still has it in him.

4. We know Reba has a new Christmas album coming out, to be exclusively available through Cracker Barrel. Rolling Stone just published a preview of Reba crooning Dolly’s “Hard Candy Christmas”, calling it “captivating”.

5. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are feeling Christmasy this year. The new Christmas album will set the stage for new solo albums from each of them.

6. Gentri made a splash last Christmas with their digital Christmas offerings and live performance videos. This year we get the full album treatment with a release called “Finding Christmas“, due on October 14th. Put them on your radar — they will be a group to watch:

7. Remember Spandau Ballet? If you were not alive in the 80s, you won’t. But if you were, you’ll recognize the voice in this preview clip posted below. His name is Tony Hadley and this album actually came out last year in the UK and gets its USA release this season. In this video preview we hear his duet with Kim Wilde and it sounds pretty awesome:

8. Avril Lavigne is evidently pining for a Christmas album. MTV spilled the beans on this in April. No word if this is happening this year or beyond.

Garth brooks is always a solid Christmas choice. For any Hamilton fans, I was blown away by the new release of Hamildolph today, and if you are not into Hamilton, you will be after watching. Pentatonix has also been on my Christmas list lately, they are completely changing the accapella industry. Great selections this year all over the music industry for Christmas 2016. My hat is off to all the talented people out there.
