Good morning MMC!! I keep thinking it's Monday, but thankfully....IT'S NOT!!!

I enjoyed my day off yesterday - hung out at the lake all day. Unfortunately Mom is not doing real well, so I spent some time there last night to help out. It's so hard to see her so weak!

I am totally enjoying the Hallmark Christmas movies! I don't want to go to job #2 today b/c I can't watch Hallmark there - or visit here. LOL!!! I guess I'll get through it!

As long as the weather holds out, my brother/SIL are supposed to fly in from Cape Cod this afternoon. Will be nice to see them!

Happy Tuesday!! One day before Halloween! Tonight I am taking my daughter and her 2 friends to a Haunted House. They have been dying to go to it. Typical work day for me. I am making baked mac and cheese for dinner.

Lucy Lu had a little friend over last night too. This stray dog showed up at our house - cute & sweet as a button! I posted a message on our local FB page & found the owner within minutes....but he was almost mine. Ha ha! Somehow he lost his collar & broke out of his fence. I would guess he is a black golden doodle, but maybe a labra doodle. Not sure, but he was absolutely adorable!

Good evening, friends! Just got finished helping the kids get their homework done. DH headed to work. When he works nights, he works 430p-7a, so it makes for a long night sometimes for him, but thankfully the bad days of firefighting, at least where we live, don’t come everyday.

I’m just watching Hallmark now and trying to keep my niece entertained. We’re meeting my sister (niece’s mom) for dinner here shortly and then I’ll be taking DD to baton at 630.

I plan on coming home and just watching Hallmark. By the time baton is over, it will be the kids bedtime. I need to do some more research too - DD has to do a new routine this year (she competes individually and on a team). Her coach wants her to do a “show routine”. DD picked Jungle Book, so I’m looking for a tutu or a costume for that! Keeps it fun and enjoyable for all of us.

Hey there Meceka! Merry Tuesday! We did have a great time at ladies night. It didn't seem to be as big as normal, as far as the area where they have Christmas in the store, but it was great & I spent plenty....so they must have had some fun things. Ha ha!! I bought some beautiful lanterns. One for me, 2 for gifts! This picture really warmed my heart. They posted it the night before the open house with a caption "One more sleep!!! Copper is worn out from all the decorating and ready to show you the 2018 Christmas Shoppe! Hope to see everybody tomorrow night from 6-8:30!"

Happy Halloween Eve! Carolina played with a neighbor today and then we baked the last ofthe Pillsbury Halloween cookies. While they were cooking I was able to cast the live action Mickeys Nutcracker from 1991on the tv from youtube. We used to have it on video tape but my dad can't find it now. I've often wondered, at this time of year, whether Halloween overtook the U.K. or whether you still celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. I've heard about "a penny for the guy" ... is that still done?

Hello MerryCarey. In the few days/week leading up to Halloween, some stores have aisles filled with Halloween stock. Many people take part in Halloween parties, meals etc. I think it’s more an excuse to indulge themselves rather than a celebration in remembering the dead. As I say, it all seems very commercial and forced on us. But if people want to take part then let them carry on.

As for ‘Guy Fawkes Night’, that is an English commemoration that is based in the historical fact that on 5th November 1605, Guy Fawkes was arrested whilst watching over explosives (barrels of gunpowder) placed by the group of plotters beneath the House of Lords (Parliament). The idea of the plotters was to blow up the House of Lords thereby assassinating King James I and many other prominent people.

Immortalized in this nursery rhyme:-

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below

Yes, some children do still make a ‘Guy’ from old clothes and ‘demand’ a penny for the ‘Guy’. The proceeds will go toward purchasing fireworks. The ‘Guy’ will get burned on the bonfire!
