Chemo starts tomorrow, 4-16, 2012. I will be receiving Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) and Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) by chemo port and then the next day, I will receive Neulasta to help protect against infection. The side effects from the chemo are listed as moderate to severe, so I can expect pretty much total hair loss in addition to all the other side effects. I have to really get into a routine of drinking lots of water as I go through chemo. We have bought the Vitamix so I can make nutritional smoothies that will also help with some of the side effects, like mouth and throat sores and nausea. I am NOT looking forward to going through this, but I am looking forward to living.

On Wednesday, I went to the hospital to get the chemo port put it. Because of the lymph nodes removal and possible lymphedema, I cannot have anything done to my arms. So, to get an IV started, the nurse FIRST tried the top of my foot. No go. Then she tried the other foot. No go. Talk about pain!!! Then she tried the back of my hand. No go. Then she tried a prominent vein on my wrist. No go. Finally, I told her to do it in my left arm (only one lymph node removed) and call it good. It worked.

When I went into the surgery room, one of the nurses asked me what kind of music I wanted. I said, “Christmas.” So they put on Pandora and played Christmas music for me. Of course, I was “asleep” for quite a bit of the surgery, but I awoke to Dean Martin playing in the background. I asked one of the nurses if he were bored listening to the music. He said he would have been prior to his marriage. But his wife LOVES all the holidays, and he said he now likes Christmas music and loves to celebrate all the other holidays, too.

I agree with Sugar though. If you feel like you need to talk to someone go do it. Talking about it and putting your feelings out there will help you cope with it.

I think one of my problems was the fact I wasn't at home when it hit, and the unknown about my family and house, what is scarier is that if I was home, I would have been outside watching what was going on, we can see the damage from our yard, we had some debris tossed into our yard including a "javelin" of a branch that stuck straight into the ground 6 feet from our bay window.

One word: Awesome!!

I got to see him play in the 90's in Hartford vs the Whalers, the Pens lost that game but I got to see him score a goal, and how he came back from cancer and won the scoring title in 1993 is one of the most amazing sports stories of my lifetime.
 
I, too, am signing off for tonight. Dinner awaits. Then it will be "finish laundry time" to have every thing ready for this-coming week. Pleasant dreams, everyone.

Good evening, Christmas family

Well, I have to tell you. (I posted this on Facebook earlier), I am BEYOND upset. The vet was supposed to call this evening at 6 p.m. to let me know how Ivy is. We had puppy class this evening with Hermione (she did VERY WELL !!) and when we got home it was only 5:45.....6 p.m. came and NO CALL !! I looked on the phone and there WAS a call at 4:38 which was probably him.........We also have an answering machine.....no message. Now I don't know if Ivy is okay or not. They are SO GOING TO HEAR about this........Hell hath no fury like a mother's fury..Grrrrrrrrrr

((Seawaters)) I hope all goes well for you xo I think this just (excuse me everyone) sucks that you are going through this.....xo

I wood be waiting on no vet to phone me. i wood be on that phone morning,noon and night. Are you not aloud to go see ivy?
