The Descent
Signs (w/ Mel Gibson)
Wrong Turn

Im sure there were more... but cant think of them right now..

I LOVE scary and thriller movies but I CANNOT watch "The Grudge". There's just something about that little blue japanese kid that just wigs me out!

ALIEN!!!

I almost left the theater...

When I was a kid I used to get scared by movies and such. Now I can't get scared cause I know its not real.

The scariest thing about most horror movies now is the acting.

Scariest movie eh? Well, if you eliminate the slasher/blood 'n guts variety (which covers most of what's been released the last decade or more) and go strictly by suspense/thriller I'd have to say;

The Changeling with George C Scott.

John Carpenter's The Fog

Cape Fear, the original. Robert Mitchum played evil and menacing ace!

Cry of the Banshee from 1970. I was a kid still when I saw this. Scared me silly.

For absolute, total, hanging-onto-my-best-friend-at-the-movies-when-we- went-to-see-it-scary.......Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Some of the Japanese horror movies are excellent too. I know there's more, I was a huge horror fan when I was younger, but I can't think of them at the mo. :frankenstein:

I would have to say the exercism of emily rose freaked me out the most. Now when I wake up and see it's 3 am I always think about that movie. Signs scared the crap out of me because I was living in an old farmhouse that was built in the early 1800's(and was haunted) that was surrounded by nothing but cornfields for 6 miles each way and the closest house was 4 miles away.

For me, the scariest was The Exorcist. It gives me the creeps just typing that name. I will not let that movie be watched in my house at all. It really, really scared me!!!

Oh yeah Jay, Alien. That was frightful. That's how I feel after I eat Mexican food, like something is alive in my stomach!! LOL. Scariest movie...um... It would have to be "The Shining" the original with Jack Nicholson. Those twins holding hands in their blue dresses at the end of the hallway will be forever etched in my mind like a weird Diane Arbus photograph. Creepy...and Merry Sage, you came up with some good ones...I remember that "Cry of the Banshee", ohhhh wow, good scary.

The Exorcist...yeah, quite the scary movie in it's day. I was an "Usherette" (yes, we still had to wear a burgandy monkey suit with cap...this was in the late 70s!) at a old movie theatre and they told me I was too young to watch it. I did sneak a peek once in awhile. I remember the people filing out of the theatre white as ghosts and horrified.

That's a tough one because I'm not generally 'scared' by the typical slasher, blood and guts type movie. Give me a good old fashioned psychological thriller or ghost story and I'll be having nightmares for weeks.

Off the top of my head, the scariest movies I can remember seeing were:

The House on Haunted Hill (original)
Thirteen Ghosts (original)
The Lady in White
The Others

Also, for the "realistic, this could happen" factor:

Silence of the Lambs
Copycat

I have to admit that I have a sick fascination with vampire movies...I love all of the Blade movies, Van Helsing, Dracula etc...The scariest movie for me was Nightmare on Elm Street. I watched it against my parents knowledge when I was younger, not a good idea...:coffin:

The Shining with Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall...

House on Haunted Hill the remake is the scariest one for me. And luckily for me, there's a sequel coming out later this month. 8)

The Ring is also up there. As much as I wanted it to, The Grudge didn't really scare me. And neither did the first Friday the Thirteenth, or the Nightmare on Elm Street Movies actually. I actually laughed pretty hard when Jason grabbed the girl at the end. :P

However, that seen in Jaws when the dead guy floats out from the crack in the boat scared me half to death.

Anybody see Ringu? Japanese movie they based the ring off of?
And keep a peek for 30 days of night, new VAMPIRE movie

Yeah that looks interesting, if not redundant maybe. I wanted to see Ringu, but never got the chance..

well its a bit different since the movie takes place in an alaskan town, where night lasts 6 months
