I just received this and had to get back on to share:

The link below will take you to a video showing the very first public singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA ." But before you watch, you should also know the story of the song.

The time was 1940. America was still in a terrible economic depression. Hitler was taking over Europe and

Americans were afraid we'd have to go to war. It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans. This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and American families sat around their radios in the evenings, listening to their favorite entertainers, and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith.

Kate was also large in size, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her -- "It ain't over till the fat lady sings." Kate Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her voice coming over the radio, she was the biggest star of her time.

Kate was also very patriotic. It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring. She had hope for America , and faith in her fellow Americans. She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American song-writer, Irving Berlin (who also wrote "White Christmas") and asked him to write a song that would make Americans feel good again about their country.

When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her. He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way back in 1917. He gave it to Kate Smith and she worked on it with her studio orchestra. She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from God Bless America . Any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, the Boy Scouts have received millions and millions of dollars in royalties from this song.

This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple of verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie,"You're In The Army Now." At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper. It is Ronald Reagan.

Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said when he and a million other guys first heard her sing "God Bless America " on the radio, they all pretended to have dust in their eyes as they wiped away a tear or two. To this day, "God Bless America " stirs our patriotic feelings and pride in our country. Back in 1940, when Kate Smith went looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt she realized just how successful the results would be for her fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry, and for many generations of Americans to follow. Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you will enjoy it and treasure it even more.

NOW HERE IS HOW "GOD BLESS AMERICA " SHOULD BE SUNG!

Praying for you, Xmas!

Good evening,

Long productive night at work, but it wasn't a good night. Someone who I thought was a friend threw me under the bus to get what she wants, I do everything by the book and keep to myself but she finds a way to bring me into her problem. I am sure management will want to talk to me now and there is a slim chance I may lose my vacation, even though it has been approved for months, due to her issues. Whenever she doesn't get what she wants, everyone else suffers and management just strokes her ego. Sorry for ranting but I am so ticked off about this.

I should probably get to sleep, I have to head back to the funhouse for 7am.

Good night all.

Hmmm. What would Valerie say???

Well if you are drinking as much as her, then it's definitely going to be PM.

lol, that's ironic... I was just thinking about Valerie, because I am sitting here working on my Christmas cards and I'm presently covered with Glitter... from head to toe...

Seawaters, I'm toasting you! Pouring a glass of wine and going to watch the rest of home alone and go to bed :-) X-Mas, I'm thinking about you! hope everything goes okay tomorrow and they don't punish you for whatever's going on with your coworker. You deserve that vacation time! keep your chin up.

CHRISTMAS SEASON DAY #24

Good Morning, Over-the-Hump Christmas Enthusiasts.

Ah. Indeed.
Mid week has passed by and we have started the downhill coast to the Weekend.
(Heck! Weekend Eve is tomorrow, Folks!)

But let's look at this today:
Days to Christmas Day: 19
Wow! Just think about that now -- Nineteen!!

It was a tad cooler yesterday but still nice for early December, with just a bare sprinkle of a rain in the morning.
It is 42.2 degrees here currently on our handy-dandy digital back door thermometer.

Have a Thrilling Thursday, Guys!
And let the power and the spirit of the Season be your guide and guardian today.

Good night all.

This is so not fair, Xmas. I hope it all turns out well for you. If management has ANY SENSE they will already know you are the more valued employee.....I hope all turns out well..........xo

Well, here I am at the public library, killing time until my car is ready to be picked up. Took it in for one thing and when I went to get it, turns out the....track rod end? needs replaced and there's something up with the brake disks. Deep joy. Thing is, I trust these guys implicitly so I know they aren't making things up. I just REALLY wish all this had happened in July instead of a couple of weeks before Christmas!!

Our Christmas pantomime is going well - The Wizard of Oz - but I must admit I'll be glad to get my life back by the end of the week. Still, we have happy audiences so that's good. Dorothy has to calm down on her heel clicking though because her red sequins are falling off her ruby slippers!!!!!

I don't know when the computer will switch off so I'll catch you later from home, hopefully in a safe car!!!

It is a dangerous drug. They use it for Chemotherapy. The side effects can be managed though. The main side effect of the shot is going to be an upset stomach. The folic acid should really help with that according to my sister. They will also probably do blood work on you a lot to check your liver function (they check my niece every month). After being on it for 2 years my niece's blood work did come back with decreased liver function a couple of months ago. They cut her back for a month and everything went back to normal. She's never really had any other problems with it. That being said, my sister thought long and hard before putting my niece on it and she has friends whose kids have had worse reactions. So it's really up to you. It's a drug that works for a lot of other people but if you want to try something else first, I wouldn't blame you.

Made, I have said it before and I will say it again, you are such a thoughtful, kind, intelligent and wonderful man. Why you are still single is a mystery to me !! Thank you so much for your post. I am actually on the fence about this whole thing. Part of it is the self injecting of the medication. Good Grief. I think for now as I said I am just going to hold off until at least after Christmas. I am going to try to have further dialogue with my doctor or at least a nurse at her office and see what they say. Thank you again. I really appreciate the info and any information and experience you or anyone has had with this drug (((HUGS)) xo
