As I've mentioned, we're picking up a friend today, going out to lunch, then back home for a late exchange of Christmas presents (we're also late giving him his birthday present), conversation, and movies. It'll brighten up the damp, gray day we have here.

Sunday morning, getting very foggy out. I am making a big pot of green pea soup better known as "snet"

Taking LittleCS to work in a few minutes. Then I think I will come home and curl up on the couch for the afternoon! Arm is a little better, as long as I do not move it!

Thank you, Shellie. It is funny, but at first I didn't think I was "parent-bashing" because you are my peers; and I knew you would understand. I would be willing to stake my life on the fact that my friends here at MMC are the kind of parent I would LOVE to have in my class, caring, supportive, and loving.

i bet you see more of them kids than some of there parents do
i see where your coming from , you try and do your best. as am sure you see the signs
Some parents dont want to listen, theres nothing like there kid and they can do no wrong and if you say anything your picking on them
Its ths same over here , and i think if you have the seem the crap that is going on over here about a flag you wood see that they are young ppl, what are the parents doing
you can only support them at school if they dont get it after school as well and when a treacher speaks up they are the worst in the world,
Am sure at times it makes you mad , as you see it and want to help but you might as well talk to yourself, i think some parents are glad to get rid of the kids to school for a while
So i dont think you have anything to say sorry about

Thanks, Dawg. I had a feeling that my MMC friends would understand, but I did not want to come off as unprofessional. I felt like y'all would understand.

On another note, I will be there for breakfast. Grits are my favorite!!!

Oh Seawaters don't apologize! I know exactly what you mean...I hear most of the same thing every day. Some parents don't know how to be parents,don't want to be parents,or some spoil and entitle their kids so in other words they are spoiled little brats. I could not be a teacher so help me goodness I would loose my temper if a kid smarted off to me...In fact I don't even like to be around kids that don't even say Yes sir or no Sir and I think it's deplorable...anyhow all I want to say is I feel for you and all teachers out there trying to educate children in 2013 !! I could not do it!

In other news I did not sleep good but it's okay I got in some good reading!! I am about to cook a good breakfast of sausage and "grits" with butter and toast! Good morning everyone! have a great Sunday morning!

One of my favorite parts of the Countdown is that the count is going on in the background before we even know it. It feels really good to look at the count when we get to January and see that we are on our way. Thanks for all you do, Crown.

Good Morning, Folks.

Weekend, Part II has arrived.

And so has the daily count:
Days to the Season: 304
Days to Christmas Day: 346
Barely over half a week away now from our first Milestone, the 300-day Season marker.
Then, the first of our 200's numbers!
(Marking steady progress, Guys.)

A bit cooler yesterday than predicted but we are still improving.
Hope to get to those promised 70's readings today.
It is 56 degrees and foggy here right now.

Thank you, CAH. "Train up a child in the way he should go...." We can't expect kids to know what to do and say, we have to MODEL what to do and say. I am positive that the parents here did just that. It is evident in the posts on this site. You are ALL teachers. I have a sign in my classroom that says, "We are all teachers; we are all students."

I was terrified of my first grade teacher too! She was downright mean! She never hurt me physically but I saw her with other children and it was scary! Never saw that with other teachers, thankfully!

Seawaters would be the teacher that I would want for my kids! =)

My son-in-law and daughter teach my grandchildren to say, "yes sir, yes ma'am", etc. I didn't realize how much it stood out until I took them trick-or-treating this past year. They would walk up to the porch with a bunch of other kids they didn't know and I stood back a little so I couldn't hear what was going on. By the time all the kids got their candy and walking off the porch the adults in the house would look at me and say, "Your children have very good manners"! Nothing was said about the other kids, just mine. (I am not saying that ALL kids have no manners, it was just in this situation). So I listened in on the next few houses and the adults in the house were asking my grandchildren, "Are you having fun tonight"? My grandchildren would reply, "Yes ma'am" and would say, "Thank you" after receiving their candy. I had heard people from at least 15 different houses, that night, that my grandchildren have good manners. I am not going to say my grandchildren are perfect little angels (they can get rowdy!) but I am thankful for their manners. They are very quick to say thank you for any little thing you do for them without having to be reminded to say so.

It is so funny to see the kids at the grocery store or Wal-Mart. They act like they haven't seen you in a long time when they just saw you that day! Then the next day they brag that they saw you in town. So funny!

I loved my first grade teacher!!! Every friday he would bring in a wooden ramp that he had built and we would race hot wheel cars. He would also bring in a trash bag full of popcorn and drinks and we would just sit around and party all afternoon. It was great. I lived right down the street from the elementary school and as I got older he would stop by our house while we were waiting on the bus for middle and high school to see how me and my sisters were doing. I still see him all the time at the grocery store and he always stops and talks to me.


Now my second grade teacher, that's another story. LOL!!!

Thanks, Star. I do have some special, caring parents in my room. It just seems that those who are not caring are the loudest ones. What I also hate to see is a parent who is reading me the riot act and treating their kids like garbage, too. Especially in public!

oh Seawaters, we all have those moments of "why did I say that" ! I have driven a school bus for 10 years and know what you mean about some parents. Then there are the parents who just make it all worth while.

I prayed for the kids on my bus all the time!

Thanks, MC. You might not have human children, but you have a brain!!! Plus you pay your taxes and are entitled to speak your mind. I am of the school to treat others like I want to be treated. You are right about some teachers being in it for the tenure or other perks. I get riled up about that, too! It would be great to have the promising kids, but I have to tell you that I get an absolute thrill when I connect with a kid that others have given up on. I have 14 challenges this year (three moved away--put into another teacher's class by parent demand). I can see that those three students will have trouble in their new classroom. The present teacher has already gone to the principal about the students and talked to the parents. She told the parents that she is seeing exactly what I saw and what I worked on with the kids. One of the kids is absolutely refusing to do the work. He told me that I didn't teach him!!! I don't know what he is telling his new teacher!

You are right about kids and parents having an "entitled mentality," (my words). It is hard to combat that when so much is just handed out to them and not a lot is expected in return.

I second this wholeheartedly. Even though the system needs teachers like you, I'm happy that you will be retiring and not having to deal with the bad elements anymore. I think teachers get a bad rep with parents because of the poor ones who are more interested in their union perks and tenure than trying to give kids a decent education, so some parents are inclined to automatically assume that the teacher is the problem. So there are problems on both sides of the equation. If only there were some way to put the promising kids in the hands of teachers who actually give a d---, nobody could beat education in this country. But so few teachers, parents, and children feel that education is something to put effort into---they seem to want it handed out, like a pill.

Like CM3, I don't have children, so I'm not really qualified to speak out on this subject, but it gets me riled enough to say what I feel anyway.

You are correct, Shellie !!! Those are the normal values. It does concern me that Wish's creatinine is 3.5 which is markedly elevated but I am hoping it goes down.........xo

I forgot to add that it is really funny when you have toilet paper in your cart!
