Good morning!
We woke up to it snowing and my boys have been out playing in the backyard for a while..
But it started to rain so now we are having lunch.
Hope YOU have a great day! :snowball:
we have weather like that all the time here, rain one day snow the next! It has been cold and snowy for a whole week now, new record this winter!

For Presidents' Day---I happened to think of this one-reeler, because Washington, Lincoln, and Wilson are all in it. They tell Dick Powell all about the NRA (National Recovery Administration, under FDR) so he can write a song to promote it.

I'm serious....I think we should have a four day work week and a three day weekend....the first day of the weekend you could spend getting all your groceries and cleaning your house...the next two you could relax....

Brad, you are the group politician.....can you do this for us?
I like it!

When we went to the 6-1 school calendar, we tried to have the weeks off which had a holiday. So, school is out this week. Presidents' Day allowed them to take four actual school days off, but the holiday added another day The same thing happens during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hubby worked "four 10s" for his 33 years at the Forest Service, so he always had a three-day weekend, except it was a four-day weekend when a holiday came around.

Does anybody have Presidents' Day off from

work today? Sounds like business as usual around here. I'm off, but Mr. is on call for some work that's supposed to come in later today. So we're just hanging around the the house. I have a couple letters from about a month ago that I haven't answered yet ... shame on me.

Some workplaces actually do that, but the catch is that it is four 10-hour workdays instead of five 8-hour days. They still get their 40 hours out of you. But a lot of people enjoy having the free weekday that they don't mind the longer workdays.

I like that song, too, Ryan. In fact, I went out and bought a CD for that very song and listen to it almost daily in my car!

Just read Xmas365's most recent blog post. Congratulations on 400+ days of posting Christmas songs, and thanks for doing it! If I'm not mistaken, it was your posting that first introduced me to the Bobby Darin song "Christmas Ault Lang Syne." It has since become one of my all time favorites. Keep up the good work, brother.

Oh, my, that menu!!! The Carolina Pork Burger, the Veggie Burger, and the salads look outstanding! And that gumbo? Yummo! They have an interesting take on burgers with the smoked brisket! When we went to Portland, we tried a place recommended by DDD. We were not disappointed! When we go to New Orleans next year, we are going to try The Debris at Mother's Restaurant.

Thank you! We love it and the kids talk about it all year until our next visit rolls around.

I am also excited because we're going to this place:

I saw it on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives," and they mix smoked brisket in with their ground beef on the burgers. Okay...I have to stop now or I'll keep going...but I think I'm most excited about the food...and seeing my little ones have so much fun.

National Geographic made a TV movie based on Bill O'Reilly's book, Killing Lincoln. It's a detail of John Wilkes Booth and his assassination of Lincoln. I wanted to see it, but I don't get NatGeo.

I'll form an exploratory committee and get back to you on that.

Of course, they don't actually wind up on the moon, but they THINK they do. Confusion and hilarity reign ... it's not a great film, but it was fun. It was an international evening. We also watched Laurel & Hardy speaking German, and British an Italian documentaries about L&H.

I love me some Laurel and Hardy! What is your favorite one? Mine is Sons of the Desert. My favorite short they did is Helpmates. Stan can make me laugh like no one else.

hi everyone....now Jones has been hit with the influenza,too....darn it...kandice is eating something and I need to drink something...have not had enough water today

One of the best snacks is Spanish peanuts poured into a bottle of Pepsi. What childhood memories!

Never tried that, but sounds interesting!! I'm suddenly hungry ;)

I laughed out loud when Washington talked about the 120 million Americans!

We had a great weekend visit with my parents. On Saturday, a storm came through and we had "thunder" snow. It was thundering and snowing hard. We got a little over 3 inches in 2 hours. Thats a big deal in Gastonia, NC. I collected snow outside and mom made snow cream, just like when I was a kid.
We have had that happen here too, just a few weeks ago. It is so strange to see lightening and hear thunder in the winter!

I was thinking about this the other night, but I didn't have a bottle of Coke or Pepsi! I think I will make a run to Wal-Mart and get some to have on hand when the mood hits me!

When when I was a kid my grandma taught me to put salty peanuts in my Coke. Man, it's good.

Yes, it is strange, Star. The first time I heard about thunder and snow together and thunder in the winter was in the movie Christmas Snow. It just seemed so weird to me!

Is it out on Netflix?

I don't think it is yet. I think it just premiered this weekend. I caught some of it last night and it was very good! Tom Hanks provides the narration, and there are actors portraying Lincoln, Booth, and the others. I'm guessing it will come to DVD soon. I'm going to try and DVR it on the next showing.

A great movie that was made some years ago for TNT is The Day Lincoln Was Shot. If you're interested in the subject, I recommend it. Very good movie.
