Running around like a crazy person this morning. Not how I like to spend Epiphany morning, but we had an issue with a cow and some business matter pop up at 7:20am. Yippee.

Just wanted to pop in here and ask for some warm thoughts for my closest friend, Mary. She lives in Heavener, OK. Their house isn't heated and it doesn't have a fireplace either. The have several space heaters, but it's just not getting the job done. It's 8 degrees outside and inside her thermometer is reading 37. They can't afford a hotel room and the landlord refuses to fix the furnace. :-(
Bless her heart! After this cold snap, it'll be time to take the landlord to court!

Come on down to the Sooner State and hang out this week...we will get back into the 50s.
Shoot, it's supposed to be 77° on Saturday in Bellville! :o

Sometimes local communities will set up shelters in schools or other community buildings during extreme weather. Is this an option for Mary? At least she could get warm for a few hours.

um, here it is illegal for the landlord to refuse to fix an essential item such as a furnace. Hope they get it worked out quickly. Tell them for now to close off all rooms but one and keep the heaters in there. .
Getting a hold of the local news and getting their story public will help too.

Oh goodness! How terrible to be without warmth in that kind of weather. I agree with MerryCarey, is there some sort of community help ? Praying for Mary and her family. I hope you and your family get through this weather to.

hmmm, always wanted to take a long road trip!

this is my Ontario

I have never seen the entire area under the same warning at the same
time :

9:32 AM EST Monday 06 January 2014
Wind chill warning for
Extreme wind chills from minus 35 to minus 40 tonight and Tuesday morning.

In the wake of the storm, cold brisk winds are expected to produce widespread dangerous wind chills of minus 30 to minus 35 beginning late today. Wind chills can reach minus 35 to minus 40 overnight tonight and Tuesday morning.

Extreme caution is advised for people heading outdoors. Exposed skin may freeze in less than 5 minutes.

Moreover, it is also suggested to help prevent freezing of pipes in buildings, one could turn on the lowest tap in the house and let it run as a pencil-thin stream or fast drip while keeping indoor temperatures a little warmer at night.

Wind chills will improve slowly on Tuesday.

A rapidly intensifying winter storm centre from Texas has moved into Southern Quebec this morning.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor this evolving situation and update warnings accordingly.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.

''Exposed skin may freeze in less than 5mins!'' Eeeek!!!!! I have never experienced this kind of severe weather. Keeping you all in prayer Star!!!

Graywolf- Praying for your friend. As far as the landlord goes, Well this is a family site.

Indianapolis is going from a red travel warning to an orange travel warning at noon. So i guess that means it's time for everyone to go to McDonald's!!!

Our forecast is similar. We're getting a lot of snow melting this morning, with a weird fog floating on top of the snow. Tonight it will be in the teens. I hope it will stay above freezing until I can get home! Our street is curb-to-curb slush this morning, and if that freezes solid, nobody will be able to drive. I'm hoping they'll plow away the slush today, but they will probably just drop some sand and salt and call it a day.

I was just talking about that last night. I wish the plows would come through again for all of this slush. We would be lucky if they come back to sand after this freezes, they really do a terrible job here. Be careful out there!

Scary, isn't it?!

We are taking turns going out w/ Harlowe, and starting our cars every few hours. We have hand warmers & are coming in to thaw out by the fire. I don't ever remember it being this dangerous!!

I've got to get ready for bed soon.
First day back tomorrow, I really don't want to head back there.

One day back and then a day off so its not all bad. cheesy

Good night, everybody.

It's good to look on the bright side! Hope your day back at work is hassle-free!

10 degrees here in north Texas. First full week of the year. Really dreading the nest few months as we try to close out our boring business without losing to much skin. The boys still have another week before they head back to college. They are only 3 hours away and one or both of them usually comes home every weekend but its not the same. For several weeks leading up to Christmas I mentally kick things down the road that aren't important now it's time to take care of those things. I'll be looking forward to the milestones a little more this year. Stay warm everyone.

Praying for you, Slim!

That is a great idea MerryCarey. We have many warming centers here for people in need.

Well Indianapolis has declared a snow emergency. So no one is allowed on the road unless it is an emergency. This is the first time that has ever happened in my lifetime.

My county has also declared one now too. So everyone gets to hunker down and wait out the storm.

Good to hear! All I've heard for here is that the secondary roads are impassable and most schools are closed. Stay warm!
