We're losing roughly three minutes of daylight everyday. Why these folks are spending all that money for two minutes of shade is a mystery...The solar eclipse comes directly over my hometown on Monday & they get over 2 minutes of total darkness. Around 6,000 live there & they are expecting around 20,000 to be there over the three day weekend. We are twenty minutes away, in the same county, and we've been told by local E-911 to treat it like a blizzard. Get your groceries & gas & stay at home! The festivals they are doing are really geared toward out-of-towners. Schools are out on Monday, security is high, and you have to pay $20 to park & be shuttled into town by bus. All hotels within 50 miles are booked. Restaurants are afraid they'll run out of food. There are two interstate exits in the town. They are asking people not to use the interstate if they can avoid it. I don't trust that everyone will keep their eclipse glasses on and they will all be lined up at the optometrist offices on Tuesday morning because they've burned their eyeballs out...; people are still scrambling to get eclipse glasses. We've known about this for months, people!
DH has to work all day Monday. I was just told yesterday that as long as one person mans the office, we can work until lunch & take the rest of the day off. I was already bringing DD to work with me because they say if it usually takes you 10 minutes to get somewhere, plan on it taking an hour on Monday. I work 10 minutes from home. If I left DD at home alone & she needed me, it would take me an hour to get to her! She'll come to work with me, then I think we'll try to get home, if we can. If we can't, I plan to pack lunch for us just in case. I think we'll watch it on tv & save our eyes!
Timing is everything! It's more exciting when it happens in the MIDDLE of the day. We're losing roughly three minutes of daylight everyday. Why these folks are spending all that money for two minutes of shade is a mystery...
Have a good Saturday also HmG!!
I grew up not far from Charlottesville and couldnt even believe they had considered removing the monument of Robert E. Lee. I wonder how it would be if I lead a crusade to have every statue of Grant or Meade removed because 95% of my family had been killed during the Civil War?NcGunny, I don't feel anyone for any reason should be allowed to take it upon themselves to destroy public property because they don't like it. Such individuals and groups should petition what ever authorities are in charge (city, state or federal as the case may be) and let the matter take its proper legal course.
The destruction (which took place in Durham, just 25 miles from where I live) reminds me so much of what the radical islamists do in territories they take over. They destroy the antiquity. To me this is nothing more than historic vandalism and is unbecoming of organizations and groups that professes to be opposed to hate. I'm seeing more hate in Durham directed toward southern heritage than any I've ever seen anywhere in my life. Very sad indeed.
Groups have always had differing agendas and that's fine. What isn't is the steady increase in the violence and incivility. That's what's so scary.I grew up not far from Charlottesville and couldnt even believe they had considered removing the monument of Robert E. Lee. I wonder how it would be if I lead a crusade to have every statue of Grant or Meade removed because 95% of my family had been killed during the Civil War?
Its dangerous ground we are treading on today, groups seem to have a agenda.
Thanks Crown! I'm ready for Autumn!Good Morning, Weekenders!
Yep. The Wonderful Weekend. It's here once again.
Now, our next Milestone marker may not be here yet, but it soon will be.
Just how soon? We will get to that in just a moment.
First, there is this to consider:
Days to the Season: 86
Days to Christmas Day: 128
And the Milestone?
It's the 2/3 point to Christmas Day 2017.
The date?
August 25.
The distance?
SIX days.
Be here.
Well, Mother Nature must have heard me complaining about the heat in the last post and got mad because she made yesterday even worse. We had a heat index of about 105 and there were dire health warnings out from our local weather personnel.
Today? Not much better, if any at all.
No relief in sight until the second half of next week, in fact.
Right now, our weekend has commenced here at 75 degrees.
But regardless of your heat situation, please pledge to have a Sensational Saturday, OK?
Thxs Crown!! Time to hit the beach!!Good Morning, Weekenders!
