Good Morning, Guys.
We are here once again. (At the weekend, that is.)
Now. we REALLY have a chance to give the latest data our full and undivided attention!

Ergo:
Days to the Season: 276
Days to Christmas Day: 318

We can also more fully concentrate on the signficance of our next pending Milestone marker, which just happens to be the ONE-QUARTER point to Christmas Season 2018. It is only TWO days away, now.
That's the DAY AFTER TOMORROW, Folks!
(Wowzers!)

We reached the predicted high of 57 degrees yesterday, and are told the high today will top out at 68. A welcomed respite.
Currently, 49 degrees is our reading here in central North Carolina, with a light rain falling.

Have a Sensational Saturday, Everyone!
Thanks Crown! Enjoy the start to your weekend!

There is nothing like the first few sips of coffee, first thing in the morning.

I opened up the curtains to let a little bit of the sun shine to come in while it is out. It’s supposed to rain here today and tomorrow. We have this family of house sparrows that are always in this hedge row on the side of the house and they are out there, just carrying on like no tomorrow, chirping away and singing. There’s also a pair of red birds out there too. I love to see the cardinals, the male is so bright red in contrast to the winter blahhh back drop.

My kitties are both sitting on the window sill, staring away, tails are swishing back and forth, they are probably thinking; breakfast!!!!!

My wife’s car has been having emission problems with the check engine light coming on. So, I take it to the mechanic. He calls me and tells me it needs 2200.00 of work. It’s a 2012, and it has original brakes, none of the original fluids have been flushed, original plugs, needs tires, alignment, fuel injection cleaning and more. I ask my wife, honey, did you ever have any of that done on the car since you bought it brand new. Answer: well, they kept on trying to get me to do things on it, but I always just said change the oil!

Ahhhhhh, now I understand. I love her, she’s so darn cute. (We’ve been married 4 months now, yesterday, to be exact, and so, I am slowly taking over the maintenance and fixing things, parts of her life, so she won’t ever have to worry about it again. And besides, I like that she sees that I want to protect her!!!!)

I just want her to be in a vehicle that’s safe and reliable, so in my eyes, money is nothing compared to her safety; she’s my wife and I love her. So, I’m getting all that done and more today, ohhhh, the emissions thing was a fuel/ oxygen sensor that apparently had failed.

I figure since it’s a nissian, it should last an additional couple of hundred thousand miles or more. She’s got 97,000 on it now and the majority of it is highway mileage.

Besides the car thing, I’m going to do some insulating around here in this old house (I was told it was built around 1920), and when the wind is blowing outside, I can feel the drafts and see the curtains move. We don’t own it, we are just renting it, but we pay the heating bills.....

Hope you all have a grand day today!

You know, I just had to talk about this further, because I find it interesting, only because I haven’t really experienced it till lately.

Well, ever since I moved up to Connecticut from Maryland, I have not been able to find any scrapple in the grocery stores. I kept scratching my head, not understanding why. My favorite brand, is Rappa scrapple, I’ve been eating it since I was a toddler. So, every place I go for breakfast up here, I ask, “do ya all have any scrapple?”. I get these blank looks or a reply of “what’s scrapple”? I even went to a Cracker Barrel up here, I figured if any place would have it, it would be there; nope! The waitress looked at me like I was speaking Dutch or something.

So, whenever I get back to Maryland, I go to a weis store and pick me up several packages of it and I bring it back to Connecticut.

Anyhow, I just found it fascinating that no one up here knows what it is. Ha-ha, you should of seen the look on this persons face behind the local deli here, when I asked him if he had any head-cheese back there.... I think at first he thought I was implying something! Lol....

Scrapple is its own food group. I do not care for it but my hubby loves it so I always make sure I have it in the freezer. We have a local pork butcher here that makes it from scratch and everyone in the family including the inlaws love it more then Rappa.

Morning ... sitting here enjoying my coffee. Taking my daughter to a job interview in a little while then got to take my mom grocery shopping. Hubby and I are going to dinner and movies tonight ... date night! It's long overdue. Not looking forward to all the rain this weekend. Hope everyone has a great day.

I think you’d have to go to Philadelphia to find scrapple, if you didn’t want to go all the way back to Maryland.

Where I grew up, there was a little shop that sold the second-best country ham on the world, and other pork products. They sold scrapple, but my mom told me I wouldn’t like it, so I’ve never tasted it. I sure miss good country ham, though.

If you want a REALLY weird look, go to a doughnut shop or bakery and ask for kinklings on Shrove Tuesday. Back home even the supermarket bakeries made them. I miss those so badly this time of year! No one outside of my home county ever heard of them.

This Long Island girl did not know what scrapple was, I just looked it up.
I hope you and your wife have a wonderful weekend!

Good Saturday morning! After a 60h+ work week, I am finally on staycation! I got up at about 5am to watch Olympics short track and long track speed skating and now ski jumping (with Loki sleeping on my lap). I found out yesterday that my boss likes to watch figure skating, a kindred spirit. Today we'll finally take down our Christmas tree. That's the longest it's ever been up. With both David and I being sick, we just didn't have any energy to do anything. Other than that it'll be a very relaxing day catching up on the dvr and napping I think. Hope you will all enjoy a wonderful day!

Enjoy your staycation Martine!!!
xx

YES!!!! Exactly... I love those! I’d know your totally right about that. There’s a friend of mine who’s family owns a doughnut shop in Frederick Md, called Krumpie doughnuts! Oh man, do I miss them. I used to go in the back and his dad would give them to us right as they came out, piping hot! They melted in you hands, mouth...

Country ham makes the best red-eye gravy. There is nothing better on grits than red-eye gravy.

Lol... I’m on the other side of you in Milford Connecticut. I can look out of the apartment and see water that goes into the sound.

I love all that kind of stuff you would find on an old time/ old fashioned farm. It was being raised by my grandparents that gave me that appetite for things like that. They were German/ Irish mix.

Isn’t though? Ohhhhh man, I would love to try that...

Oh, you're killin' me ... Um, does he ship ... ?
Frederick is the place to get genuine kinklings! Yes, they do melt in your mouth, as the molten powdered sugar gets all over you ... You have to bring them home in a brown paper bag with grease spots on it ...

We weren't far enough south for that, I guess. But when my grandmother cooked a country ham, she'd save the broth to cook green beans in. You never had green beans like those in your life. And the leftovers from the fridge reheated later were even better! And we're talking about country ham that my grandfather cured himself. Less dark and salty than what you usually see---SO delicious sliced cold or in sandwiches. There was always a platter of it on the dinner table for holidays and birthdays. My dad and uncle used to split their dinner rolls and make mini-sandwiches. Boy, do I miss my grandfather's ham!!!

Hi everyone!

You won't remember me I'm sure, I only posted a little around the start of November last year. I got too busy with christmas to post but I kept checking in every once in a while, It was nice to see everyone enjoying the season and it helped give me a little extra christmas spirit. Feeling post christmas blues particularly hard today so thought I'd come say hi. Going to try and post regularly, you have a lovely community here. Hope everyone is well.

Lol!!! You can't find it here either. My mom loads up on it every time we go back to PA. She likes to get it from one of the Amish stores but had to settle for Giant Eagle last time. She's tried to get a couple of the neighbors to try it but so far, she's the only one that'll touch it.

Okay, now my mouth is watering!! Did she put the ham bone in with the green beans too?
