As you may have heard, I have been working on a project to bring a Christmas store to MyMerryChristmas for the purposes of supporting Santa's Sleigh. This has long been a dream.

While good progress has been made there have been some outside events that have given me pause.

Before investments are made in products I've decided to ask the community for some feedback after seeing some of the comments in the Countdown about what folks are seeing on QVC for Christmas in July this year.

Many of the comments seem to focus on a seeming lack of Christmas decor items this year. I don't know if that's an intentional strategy of QVC or something influenced by outside forces, such as tariffs.

For me, sourcing ANY Christmas items has been something of a frustration.

We have some ideas for original items we want to offer under our own brands and have been working on them over the past year. They will be the first things we will offer.

Our goal is to offer quality, reasonably priced items that are not the norm that you see out there in stores or on other websites.

We have explored imported items and long ago decided we didn't want to do that.

What good does it to open a store that sells what everyone else sells?

Besides, I have been so disappointed in my personal shopping for Christmas items such as tree toppers and Nativity sets. We can do better.

But we can't make everything.

What we can really use help with is answering these questions:

1. What are you really wanting?

2. Are their American-made producers of any kinds of Christmas goods you feel we should know about?

3. What ideas or suggestions might you have?

We want to sell not only Christmas decor. We have our idea on some Christmas food items, unique printed boxed Christmas cards, Christmas ornaments, Christmas tree accessories such as stands, skirts, and lights, Christmas gift items, and other categories. We don't want to limit it if we can find unique offerings.

In my real-world work I'm an e-commerce web developer. After a full career in traditional retail I've been able to work for the past several years selling online. I know we can offer a first class and efficient operation running a Christmas store. For me, it's been a long time dream.

But it is clear to me I have to lean on more than just my own understanding.

There are going to be challenges, such as seasonality of stuff and competition from corporate retailers. I think we can handle all that. But what I need to do, right now, is listen to those out there who might support such an enterprise here at MMC.

Santa's Sleigh has to be at the heart of it. At my age this isn't about filling my pockets. So, please share your heart with me about this project BEFORE we open the doors on it.

Give it to me straight: would you support such an enterprise? What would YOU want it to offer to make it worth your time?

Thanks in advance for your candor.

Jeff, I think is an above and beyond wonderful endeavor that you have taken on to fulfill your dreams. I am in complete support of this and I just love, love, love the thought of things being made in this part of the world. I do like some traditional things but the unique, hand crafted, quality made products is really what catches my eye. The biggest non appealing thing I find with the products of late with QVC is the lack of quality (we have returned many things from Valarie Parr Hill due to the terrible painting/finishings with her products especially figurines). Oh gosh, what has been very appealing to my wife has been things like wreaths, swags, picks, candles, figurines, Christian items and general home decor. Me, I like all that too, plus I love things that are reminiscent of days gone by, things that are unique in the aspect of they look like they were made in the 1800’s and early to mid 1900’s but are made with today’s quality electrical components and such.

I personally over the years have gone from a very busy look to a more conservative/ traditional softer/ outdoor woodsy look and feel to things.

What turns me off about some of the products of late on QVC is the lack of quality, gaudiness, price, some things just look so cheaply made and being sold at a ridiculous price.

This is just my opinion and thoughts. Thank you.

I would be 100% on board. T-shirts, sweatshirts, trucker caps would be of top interest to me.

If someone in the community 3D prints Santas or snowmen, that could be interesting.

I think Christmas cards are a great idea too.

What about a holiday shop? Maybe you could sell more year round, but still have the heaviest focus be on Christmas?

I like the Christmas card ideas, and also decorations. Decorations are hard to find and very helpful as a present for other Christmas fanatics besides Christmas time.

There's a plethora of Christmas shops out there selling shirts, mugs, etc. (mine included), but that doesn't mean there isn't room for more. I think many people on this forum would support the site with buying a shirt or hat with the Santa's Sleigh and/or My Merry Christmas logo. Especially with the proceeds going towards such a great cause.

I would certainly buy from here, especially knowing the purpose behind it.

What I would like to see are decorations that look like decorations from the 80s and before. I often try to find actual vintage decorations, but I am not trying to collect it; I just really like the look of those items. I would be perfectly happy buying modern versions that look vintage.

I agree that selling items for other holidays would be great too.

I am so with you on this. Over time I have become so disappointed with how cheap and ugly things have become.

The company I work for has me running six websites. They are a metal fabricator and have several brands. They do work for other people so I approached my boss with some questions about making items out. She got a bit excited and together we designed a prototype of an "old style" Christmas tree stand.

With some decent powder coating the thing is awesome. Absolutely bullet proof.

And it weighs about 80 pounds.

So....it's a work in progress.....
