In movies, they always bring the whole turkey in, and it's a WOW moment
But the carver needs to serve everyone at the table, for he (or she) can sit down
And do you need to be a great carver to pull this off?

Here we cut the turkey in nice slices at the kitchen and serve it on a plate at the table
We have never brought the whole turkey to the table and done the carving there
I'm thinking, maybe we should try that for Thanksgiving this year?

How do you do it?

That's a darn good question!

My grandmother used to carve the turkey in the kitchen, then serve the turkey sliced on a platter---she never did the "wow!" thing.

Apparently it does take some know-how to carve a turkey at the table properly. M-G-M released a short film in 1939 called "Let's Talk Turkey," in which the head of the household botches carving the turkey in front of his family and in-laws---then a turkey-carving expert shows how to do it correctly and elegantly. I always enjoy watching that just before Thanksgiving!

We always bring it to the table carved. It may be less dramatic, but while one person is carving, the other people can get the food on the table so everything is hot and not left getting cold while everyone enjoys the dramatic carving.

I always have like a mini buffet setting in the kitchen where I dip everybody's plate and serve it to them at the table. I've never seen the wow moment thing in real life. I can imagine it's very fancy, though.
