Hey Libbybelle, so the down-unders now rate two at my count. What part of Auz are you from? I think you will enjoy this site as much as I am - its so nice to hear what is happening on the other side of the world. Frustrating tho when you hear how little they have to pay for Christmas lites though. But I can only agree with your comment on wanting some snow over Christmas - it was my Christmas request to Santa from the time I was 8 - got a little one year out of the blue but it melted as soon as it hit the ground.
Merry Christmas

Hi xmascrackers!
Thank you for your message. It's really nice to hear from other down unders in this Southern Hemisphere! I live in the eastern side of Australia; in a state called Victoria; in the city named Melbourne.

I do love Australia and our summers (when it's not too hot!) but it would be nice for once to have some snow, but that's unlikely to happen! Unless global warming takes a nasty turn, which isn't what we all want!!

Are there any customs or traditions that you do in New Zealand?

Take care, and have Merry Christmas!
:hi:

Hello there, Diana!:hi:
The weather in Florida must be so unpredictable! But perhaps Christmas is still Christmas when you're surrounded by the people you love such as family and friends. Do you have any favourite activities you like to do during the holidays? I like watching TV to all those Christmas themed shows and movies. I like how many of them have a moral or what somebody's thoughts on what is the true meaning of Christmas. What do you like to do?

I hope this Christmas the weather in Florida should be in your terms!

Have a fabulous Christmas!

From, Elizabeth

Traditionally Christmas wasnt celebrated in NZ till the advent of the Europeans in the 1800s and followed British customs of a hot roast dinner and the like. Over the years Christmas has been modified to suit summer temperatures so these days many people do the bbq thing or go to the beach for Christmas. In our family we have an open home on Christmas day where anyone is welcome to turn up on the day and share in a relaxed day of conversation, drinks and nibbles (which run non-stop) over the day. We either spend the day on the patio if the weather is nice or inside if the weather is not so good. Christmas eve is spent manning the Christmas display which is very busy that night. Of course the lights dont go on till 8pm and arnt really effective till after 9pm because it is still too light. To make up for that our display has a large number of day effects and we get quite a few visits in the daytime to see the effect at this time. Christmas is a wonderful time here to celebrate a range of things from the birth of Christ to spending time with family and friends. But I am always dreaming of a white Christmas

Hey, thanks for your message, Christmasstar! Would you consider this time of year the most magical and heartwarming? I consider this to be my favourite time of the year. I hope you have a fantastic Christmas. What's Christmas like in Canada?
